I cannot believe in something that is logically impossible. I don't know why I'd be punished for that.

I see what you mean; if you die and it turns out that there (whoa!) is a god, will he send you to hell for not being convinced that he ever existed? I mean, can you be guilty of breaking a law of which you were never aware? With a perfect God who knows all and is perfectly just its hard to imagine. And then, how do we know God's laws? Well, they're in a book that was written by men. Most interesting to me is the new testament which contains passages where the writer explicitly states that his writings are not from God, but from himself only. I only say that as an example to show a problem with using the Bible as a source of "God's words". However, the reason Christians would give for why you'd go to hell is that you would be eternally separated from God because that is what you chose in this life by NOT accepting God's gift (Jesus) which was designed to bridge the gap between humans and God himself. But seriously, are you going to "believe" just because you're scared of hell? Why would God want that sort of false, empty belief? Either way we will all die and find out someday.

From what I know, although you are loving, kind, merciful, etc. You cannot work yourself to be righteous. Those attitudes are good but it just not enough to get you to heaven. So that was why Jesus came. To make us righteous and come into communion with God. It takes a son of God to be nailed to the cross so that we can be free. God is not punishing us for sending us to hell. He is merciful and has already created a way to allow us to come into His presence. You just have to decide whether to believe that or not.
By the way, heaven is a holding place. Earth will be the place will humans will live when end times come. And I'm not a christian, just sharing what I know.

The Christian god is too damn perfectly good to send people to suffer eternal punishment in Hell. He aint sending anyone there. You could sin all you want and God will forgive you no matter how evil you are. He is a softhearted tart. I bet Hitler is in Heaven right now getting warm and sodomy-like with the seraphims.
Assuming of course the Christian god exists.

If we compare ourselves with other people, we can always find someone that we are better than- BUT- when we compare ourselves with God we learn that we fall SO short. Because God is perfect, holy and just. He also loving and gracious as well- that is why He sent His son Jesus so that everyone who believes on Him, will not perish but have everlasting life. Your question is kind of interesting to me- you ask why does God blame you for being atheist. Since you say God does not exist- how could He blame you for anything and send you to hell. Maybe because deep down you really do believe, but you want to come to Him on your terms not His. Also God cannot punish people if He does not exist- so I really think you are wanting to know more about God, or you would just say- He does not exist.

Yes he will punish you because you didn't believe in the only deity that created you, so how you can imagine to go to paradise?!!If you don't believe in him don't ask for his paradise on the judgment day.
It's like you want to ask a bank for interests and you don't have an account with it.
Just for your information God is so merciful that he even rewards those who don't believe in him, like you if you're a good person and doing good things in this life but you're not doing it for the sake of God because you don't believe in him or in the hereafter so you'll collect ALL your rewards during your life time I'm sure you can feel that by all good things happening to you now, but the day you die you'll have no reward at all cause you've already spent everything during your life. It's very simple to understand and what you're doing now in disbelieving in God is not worth it.
Hope you got it,
Muslim

tiddle's answer makes more sense. Please also note how much importance would you like to give to a fantasy story written some 500 years back odd, by some humans like u and me, and many people following that belief and based on that they also tell you will be punished.... funny isn't it.
God never told this, all created by some people who always wanted to retain power, just 500 years ago and for this they misused a good human like Jesus, who himself never told he was god.
Also note that form what we understand ,, The part of divinity exists in every human being and any living being for that matter, and it is this self , which keeps record of what wrong you have done and what right.
So, if your instinct says you have done nothing wrong, and you are doing good , that in deed you are really doing so.

it doesn't matter. You shouldn't be offended by the " you're going to hell" bit. If you are not a Christian then you shouldn't worry about it. All Christians say if you haven't taken salvation with Christ then you will go to hell. Just Like you are an infidel in Islam. Everyone who is not Muslim is an infidel. If you are atheist, you don't need acceptance or pay any attention to what these monotheists say.

first of all: Atheists do no longer blame God for something because of the fact they don't have faith in God. in spite of the undeniable fact that, interior the HYPOTHETICAL situation wherein God is genuine and people who reject him circulate to hell, particular, God surely sends human beings to hell. God created hell, God created the ridiculous "serve me or go through for eternity" ultimatum. If God loves human beings and has the potential to save them from eternal torment, why does not he do exactly that? Why does he call for unconditional worship in replace? this is this form of situation purely a tyrant could impose on human beings. additionally, why isn't believing in a being that has no evidence for his existence grounds for eternal torture interior the 1st place? God could desire to truly hate people who don't have faith issues based on rumour.
