We can define the purpose for ourselves.
Some let the society choose for them, some choose for themselves. Look around it all seems to work. At the end we all leave the stage exactly as planned.

Return to the One who created us. Trust Him, and return to the relationship that we were supposed to have before the fall of Adam. The only way to do that is through trusting Him through the Deliverer: Jesus Christ. All other things are not anywhere near as important.
