I just recently bought a yamaha yht-170 but havnt hooked it up yet. I just found an ONKYO HTS680 for about 70 more dollars though. Would it be worth it returning the yamaha and getting the onkyo? I am not extremely into home theater so im not looking for what has better sound qualitly, just as long as its good. I usually have friends over and we put the music vifeo channel on so what would have better and louder bass?? Thank you,
Justin

Never have had any Yamaha, but I have had Onkyo component systems for the last 15 years. I have a 200 watt Onkyo AV receiver and surrond sound hooked up to my 60-inch big screen and I have no complaints. Its good stuff and its a notch above the average.

These are both sub- $250 Home Theater in a Box systems. Yamaha and Onkyo are both fine brands for this type of product. The Onkyo has some better power/distortion specs and might be a better bargain at $225 vs. the Yam at $150, but either one will meet your requirements.

You just have to decide whether it's worth it to you to return one, or buy both and see which you like better.

Hi Justin. Sound quality is what it's all about. If you only want loud bass than anything will do.I don't see the point in spending $70 more for something that may sound better if sound quality is not on your agenda.

decide on what specs and features you want to pay for, and dont buy just because your friends say this and that is better! remember, once your buddies go home, your the one stuck with your equipment! also if you havent bought speakers yet, research it properly and audition it at home if you can...you can get the best receiver and hook it up to a garbage speaker and it will sound terrible!
