Sure, work hard and study. Your father's alcoholism has nothing to do with it. My father was an alcoholic too, but it did not stop me from making straight A's and graduating in the top of my class. I really wouldn't worry about trying to surpass your uncle, just be who you are. There are more ways to be smart than just book smart.

Remiyu, you are smart. I've read your answers and you are a real thinker. Just cause your Dad became an alcoholic it doesn't mean you are locked into that lifestyle or that you are going to make the same mistakes as your parents. If smart genes are in your family that's great, but remember our brain is a muscle and through use muscles get strong. So use your brain. Concentrate on positive things, continue to ask questions and learn, learn, learn. Don't forget that even really intelligent people have alcohol and drug problems so it doesn't mean they lack in knowledge but perhaps they lack in wisdom, and strength. Make wise choices in your life and do not give in to drowning your sorrows when times get tough.

The smartest thing you can do is not become an alchoholic or a drug addict!!! If your great uncle is still alive perhaps you could ask him how he got so smart! Some people have to work at getting smart. Make sure you stay in school and get a good education!

This is going to sound really corny but you can be anything you want to be.Education is something that isnt something that passes down from generations. Look at most immigration familys. Most of them never got a elementrary grade education, came to this country, had kids, and the kids went off to be brilliant minds. Hope this helps. Keep faith . Dont give up : )

That kinda depends on if he's a good alcholic or a bad alcholic. You still can become smart without them!!You can study, get a tutor, ask a friend or your mom also another relative. There's still other ways you can become smart!

Being an alcoholic can be inherited from your mother and father.
If one of them is a alcoholic, then you never need to drink.
If you ever take a drink you could be hooked on it.

Study, and dedication.
If your self motivated to learn and succed you will. If you take school seriously and spend the time you will get results.
Maybe your father had the potencial to be a very intelegent man as well, he just didn't take advantage of that opportunity.

yes there is! it depends on you. you have to work hard in order to be smart. it's not like your great uncle just got the smartness out of nowhere. he probably had worked hard to learn and he became smart...... just like you should do! so it doesn't matter if your dad is an acoholic......... it depends if you're willing to try hard

Like Thomas Edison said genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.
What that means is yes if you put your mind to it and work at it.

your dad being a drunk has nothing to do with your own intellegence. my biological mother was on meth when i was born, and i am just fine.

i suggest you do good in school and take years of college and learn as much as you can.
