I'm going to say yes, it probably is true that you received such a letter.

Is is true you won? Not if you didn't pay to enter a real contest.

If you are talking about an email that is telling you that you won in some lottery that you never entered... its a scam.

This is easy to verify... do a web search on the name of the 'lottery', the contact name, etc... it will most likely pop up on one of the sites that post warnings about scams.

The way it works is, they tell you that you won the lottery...and you must contact a person with your personal information... then this person starts telling you they can forward the funds to you,.. BUT FIRST you have to pay a fee... and then another fee... and they will keep at it as long as you let them.

I like to send copies of these scams to my State Attourney. Some State Attourneys actively prosecute the perpetrators of these scams.

Its a SCAM..
Think about it.. If you won a Lottery... Anywhere in the WORLD..... Don't you think they would fly you out there so, they can have you on TV and whatever else...
Think about it.. Here in the US.. If anyone wins anything even near a million.. Its all over the newspapers and TV...

There probley going to try and steal your identity or after you fill out Payment Processing.. There going to say please send us (about) $5,000 for the taxes and processing fees...

So, I wouldn't do anything but, just ignore them.. Or write back and say.. Send me the money and I'll send you the info back once I received it..
They will never answer you back.. and I would try and call you Internet provider and tell them about it...

Good luck with everything and let us know what happens...
Jay
