I don't think it will happen as long as there are humans here.
There is evidence to suggest that the first Homo Sapiens had spiritual beliefs. Even Neanderthal would appear to have believed in some higher power.
Now, all cultures include people who have and teach spiritual beliefs. It seems to be almost a given with human groups.

Most of the developed world will stop being religious in the next century. Technology is about to explode, and it will lead to the ability to transcend our bodies. When we stop fearing physical death, we will stop buying organized religion. This may not lead to actual atheism, but it will be close enough. As far as the entire world, maybe never. The Amish will stick it out separately from our techno-Eden for a looong time.

Depending on whether or not you are an atheist, you probably view a world full of atheists as heaven or hell.

Such a world is just as implausible as they are.

There will be a time of absolute disbelief sometime after Jesus returns. This will be after a cool wind comes and takes the souls of those who even have an atoms weight of faith in them. After that point only the wretched will be left on Earth until the day of judgment. Allah (God) knows best!

give it *another* 6000 years. think about it in the context of the species: humans have been around for 200,000 years or so (depending how you count and how you define human). this civilisation thing is pretty new. science, even more so. besides, why do we have to believe in the inevitable triumph of atheism? perhaps religion will always be there.

World is going to be religious one. Not poorly religious like us but truly religious in prophets way. God has told in Quran by his own words:
"O Prophet ask them: “Have you ever considered: if this Qur’an is really from Allah and you deny it, who can be more astray than you who has gone too far in defying Him?” Soon shall We show them Our signs in the universe and in their own souls, until it becomes clear to them that this Qur’an is indeed the truth. Is it not enough that your Rabb is a witness over everything? (Quran:S-41, V-52…53)
