Please read the link so that you understand what the requirements are to be a Recon Marine because they are not the elite force for nothing. The best thing you can do is physically prepare yourself for the very demanding indoc course to see if you can qualify for the program. You also have the possibility of becoming a Scout Sniper if you join as Infantry which would be somewhat like Recon but focusing on marksmanship. Scout Snipers can not be any other MOS other than infantry, however, Recon can come from any MOS. I'm also posting a link for the requirements for being a Scout Sniper. I've been in the Corps for 13 years and have loved every day. I always make it a point when talking to someone interested in something the Marine Corps has to offer to make sure they understand what they are getting into. If you decide this is something you would like to do then I wish you the best of luck!

My friend was in recon and he told me one time his group walked for three days behind the lines. When they got to a certain coordinate, they had to stay hidden for one day. They opened a sealed envelope that had the time to open it on the outside. Inside were photos of the building he was now looking at and a photo of a military person and a time of conclusion.
He was only to witness something for one minute and then return with information of what happened.
When the time came, the man in the photo came out of the building and was shot by snipers that my friend didn't know about or see. After he witnessed the shooting that happened at the conclusion time written inside the envelope, he got the hell out of there.
He told me he did not sleep for 3 days from being chased all the way back by a lot of guys.
He never did see the snipers.
He ended up getting hurt pretty bad by a rocket exploding while he was digging holes and burying catepillar tractors in the last month of the war.
This was Viet Nam not Iraq so you could tell who the bad guys were except for civilians.
I guess it was true, but I am sure a lot of mail clerks came back with stories of being a recon guy.

Hon, marine recons do just that, they reconnoiter or scout areas forward of alternative troops. It's an admirable job in the army, albeit horrifying. That's frightening to go where no marine has gone earlier than, in an effort to communicate. You sound like you want to also go "Airborne" What a fab job that's. I went "Airborne" myself when I was once in the army in the course of Vietnam era. I was once in Vietnam and didn't go "Airborne" there, but you are also watching into most likely intel. Talk to your recruiter and inform him precisely what you want to do and if your scan ratings are high sufficient in certain areas, they will permit you to do close to some thing you want in the navy, but get your high university diploma first. If you are inclined to, i'd suggest you get a university measure additionally earlier than going into the marines, you would then most likely qualify for OCS and a lot better pay and better possibilities.

You should make sure that when you join the Marines that you get Infantry for your job (MOS) and be the best , most motivated Infantry Marine in your Company for a couple of years. Get a trip to Iraq under your belt with the Infantry and if you still want to be Recon after that then you should diffently go for it. You gotta crawl before you walk, and you gotta walk before you run. Recon is the running part.

Your knowledge of RECON is as bad as your spelling.
You don't chose Recon ,Recon chooses you,you can volunteer but may not be taken.
Recon is intell gathering in small highly trained teams and you avoid the enemy not fight them.
Get busy in school, the Marines look at your High School record and if you don't do well in school ,you'll be a cook.
If they don't let the Army have you.

i think you would be sent out in advance to make sure the "coast was clear" before the platoon would arrive to capture the targets. they then turn them over to intel, cia, blackwater, etc. for torture. based on the new information this turns up, new missions are launched, and the cycle repeats itself. good recon, can prevent the platoon from driving over mines or getting hit with ied's or driving into ambushes.

I don't think you can do recon before you're 18, because that's the youngest you can deploy.
