I'm assuming you are asking about bags of 37-53 pounds. For under $20, Pedigree is superior.

I believe our Petco and Petsmart stores carry:
Authority
Diamond &
Solid Gold
Given the choice between the three, I would choose Solid Gold or Diamond. Diamond had some recall problems either last year or the year before last, but their ingredients are good and the price is very, very good. (On some formulas, the 40lb bag is around 20-25 dollars)
Solid Gold has great ingredients but a bit higher price tag. They do offer a good variety of different formulas though, which I like.
Unless Petco or Petsmart are the ONLY places around that would have dog food, I would do further research. There are alot of good premium brands out there. Petco and Petsmart don't carry most of them (as you can see from the lack of examples I was able to give you above) however, you can find many good brands at other places such as small privately owned pet stores, Feed Stores (places that sell Horse or Livestock food), as well as groomers and veterinarian offices.
I've fed Eagle Pack, Chicken Soup For The Pet Lover's Soul, California Natural, and Pinnacle and have had good results with all of them.

Why do you want to avoid those (Except alpo...i can understand that because it's crap)
The only halfway decent stuff petsmart sells is.....
Avoderm, nutro, authority and blue buffalo...not too sure about by nature as it's new to pestmart.
I have no idea about petco since there isn't one in my area.
If it has corn in the first four ingredents it's crap.

None of the above.
I personally love Innova and InnovaEVO. However, their foods arent mass market, so you wont find them at petsmart or petco. There should be pet shops in your area that carry it.

Please don't be a cheapo, anyway authority dog food at petsmart is very good. They have a lot of different kinds. We feed the large breed stuff to our mastiff, senior for our old mutt and my grama feeds her shih tzu the toy breed puppy. They all luv it and are healthy because of this food. What i want to know is what u have against science diet? The mastiff spent his first few months on it.

Good to stay away from science diet. Ekunuba is okay, not perfect, but better than science diet. I buy high quality food for my doberman and don't even bother with the cheap stuff.
