Hell yeah! They swear by it!

Speaking of Greeks and swearing, maybe it's time to hear what our President has to say on these topics...

"I regret that a private comment I made to the vice presidential candidate made it through the public airways."
— George W. Bush, on his "major league asshole" remark 9/5/00

"Keep good relations with the Greecians."
— George W. Bush, quoted in The Economist, 4/9/99

Offended, no. Because I would think that the person claiming all that is a total ignorant. I wouldn't be angry, or upset for the same reason. We don't need any confirmation of the fact that Alexander the Great was Macedonian or that Macedonia is Greek. History is history, facts are facts, and people who claim that something belongs to them when it doesn't are thieves/ignorants. Who wants to argue with such people?? Let them insist- at the end of the day, the only thing they really own is a very small brain.

Actually I don't think they did. People back then really beleived in the power of a Gods name and you didn't commit Hubris and bring their wrath on you or your village. Zues wouldn't have to punish you your fellow citizens would probably beat him to it so as to not piss him off.

Ancients were so serious about envoking a Gods name bring said Gods attention to them that they wouldn't even say Hades name for fear it would bring death upon them.

No. Damnation was not a concept to the pagan Greeks. That originated with the Christian church.

To damn something is to curse it. Since Zeus has no power what would be the point?
