Strap throat should be diagnosis by a physician because the danger lies in the heart. Strap throat effects the heart and can take your life. Trying to cure such a serious problem can be tricking and if we were in ole timey days I would recommend somethings, but I would feel better asking you to have it verified by a physician. If the test is negative, then come back and ask about natural cures for sore throat and swollen glands. But if you have a persistent sore throat without any other symptoms and perhaps a low grade fever; chances are it's strep throat.

"Strep Throat" must be diagnosed by a doctor. It is done by taking a small swab of the back of the throat and culturing it in a lab. The test does not hurt and its very quick. The purpose of this is to determine if the symptoms are being bacuased by the Streptococcus bacteria. If so, then antiobiotics are prescribed. If left untreated, Strep can turn into Rheumatic fever and can also lead to Endocarditis of the heart.
No it can be cured without antibiotics. The purpose of the swab is to make sure that it is not a viral cold. Viruses such as the common cold can not be cured by antibiotics.

Strep throat can be a serious condition. It can cause alot of problems in the future if not treated properly. If you do go to the doc and get swabbed to run the test, make sure you complete all your medicine. Strep can do alot of damage to your heart and it may not show up for awhile. If you are trying to save money by not going to the doctor and getting a test. The doctor can give you a antibiotic that would cover strep as well as plain old pharyngitis. As a nurse and someone that has devloped heart problems from strep, please get treated.
