I'm a hard core atheist but one thing bothers me about miracles. It goes like this, how did Bush get in for a second term and so far hasn't been impeached. That has to be some sort of miracle.

Funny isn't it how you can tell the ones that don't read the whole question

LOL- I never thought about it that way before. That does go against any scientific reasoning. You may be onto something.

That isn't a miracle, it is the plain ignorance and blindness of the American people. A miracle would be if this country can be turned around to be a place of true democracy and freedom with everyone having a share of this country's wealth and prosperity--that we somehow regain a vision of what we can and should be in the world and for each other.

the definition of miracle according to the dictionary; An event that appears inexplicable by the laws of nature and so is held to be supernatural in origin or an act of God. A miracle is not a rare occurrence, it is the occurrence of something that is physically impossible. And no, I do not believe in them. I know the universe had a beginning because it is expanding, we can model this expansion backwards to determine that it did have a beginning. And while science has yet to determine what caused the big bang, you can rest assured that it was not caused by supernatural phenomena

To believe in miracles implies some kind of divine intervention doesnt it? Wouldnt that negate your belief that a higher power doesnt exist? Look around you, there are miracles occuring every day. People have accidents, should die from their injuries and dont. Tornados take one house but leave another completely unscathed. Birth and the whole process of life. Soldiers surviving IED explosions. There are hundreds even thousands of miracles going on around you every day, not just in the political scene. If you dont believe in God for any other reason believe that someone more powerful than any of us made this beautiful world in all its glory for us to enjoy. He made food with amazing flavors and textures, birds with beautiful songs, and flowers with brilliant colors so that we would be happy. Believe in that miracle.

Atheists don't believe in miracles. But many of us have a better understanding of statistics and thus understand that the unlikely is going to happen eventually.

What you cite isn't even unlikely, though. As a wise man once said: "Nobody ever lost money understimating the intelligence of the American people." Just when you think something is too dumb to be possible, we the people up and show that we can be even dumber.

Atheists have their place in society. Bush however doesn't. Atheists and Christians cannot fathom how Bush survives in his throne. It is not a miracle, but a circumstance. Al Gore did win the election by the popular vote. It is beyond me that Bush took his throne and has bastardized our country.

Your not a hard core atheist and President Bush is not your enemy. You were born into a free society and you know no other way of life. There are people on this planet that dont even have carpet, indoor plumbing, malls and the internet. You have a good life in contrast to others. Do some more research and get back to me.

This is more of a complaint about Bush than it is a question.

One thing I've noticed: a lot of self-proclaimed "hard core atheist"s are vicious and mean.

I agree that Bush is not right for America but still...you don't have to go and bash the guy!

Isn't a miracle supposed to be a good thing?

That would be more like a pact with the devil or something.
