Harry Potter is not real magic - it's Hollywood and fiction.
Magic(k) is real however. Ritualized prayer, with spoken requests to the Goddess and God, utilizing the four corners and elements for a desired effect. It is not ungodly, it is just another form of prayer. We (Witches) don't shoot 'lightening' bolts out of our wands but, we do use them to direct energy. It may not be as flashy as H.P. but, to us it holds even more power, the power of our minds and imaginations.
Maybe that is a good explanation for a child? We, at least MOST of us, are not evil, we know better. Just look at what happens to Voldamort. The 'rule of three' applies not only in magic but, in all things in life. Bad actions are returned, maybe not that day or, in the same way but, it will come back to bite you on the a**. I've seen, and had it happen, over and over.
Enjoy the movie! )o( Blessed Be!

Yes, magic is real. Not in Harry Potter. It lies in the intent of your will to create changes in your life.
I also happen to believe there is magic everywhere in life, and it will come upon you sometimes when you don't expect it, in the feeling in your heart when you fall in love or hold your baby for the first time...there is magic everywhere, it is not ungodly or evil or any of that negative silliness you hear about.
If you want them to know the truth, definitely tell them that there is magic, but not the Harry Potter kind.
Bright Blessings,

Magic is not real. It's all in your mind if things are real or not. Spells don't actually work. They're used to give yourself more confidence. You can tell your children that magic like in the movies and the book is just make believe, and it's fun to sometimes pretend that we can do things like that.

Tell the kids that the book and the movie are just fiction. Magic is more of a illusion. It's tricks in your mind a smoke and mirror type thing. Let it go at that and if they want more than explain more to them from your heart. Tell them what you want they are your kids and you know them better than anyone else.

Puleese! We have enough idiots on the Gerry Springer show. Tell them the truth. And teach them a little magic to show the difference between fantasy and magic. Education is a wonderful thing. And by all means, make sure they STUDY the Amazing Randi (www. randi.org) who showed how the con men of the world milk the deluded ignorant by using magic and telling them they're levitating or disappearing or bending metal or some other such nonsense.

Well obviously the "magic" they have in mind (the Harry Potter type) is not real, so just tell them that. When they are older they can form their own views about religious magic.

I'm sorry I don't have any verses of reference, but there are verses of the Bible that speak against witch craft. However, it really all depends on how you look at magic, and also what your faith is and if you believe what the Bible says. In the end, you must decide what is acceptable for your children, and if you feel that the Harry Potter movie and book are going to confuse them or cause them to have the wrong ideas about magic, then don't let them watch or read it. I hope that helps, God bless.

If you tell them about santa and tooth fairies then I dont see whats the big deal? Sometimes kids need fantasies to ease the anxiety of growing up. Let kids be kids when they are young, give them food for thought and food for the soul. The only ungodly thing would be teaching your kids dogma!

I would tell my kids....... No it is not real...Harry Potter series are written by a british 3grade school teacher......It is all special effects that are part of the movie industry....none of it is real...the people who are the actors pick up their pay check, take off their make up, and go home at the end of the day...and they have to clean their room too....

Tell them that no one knows. No one has ever performed magic, but there still is a possiblilty that it exists. The type of magic in the harry potter books would not be considered a sin, only magic in Satan's name is sinful.
