Take it out and spray it with carburetor cleaner. When you are finished, shake it up and down, you should hear a little clicking noise. That is a little ball bearing hitting both sides of the EGR valve. That means that it is free and working again. good luck.

Check your repair manual. If there is a cleaning method, use it...my experience has been if the EGR tests as the culprit, the EGR is indeed bad and must be replaced. There is a rubber vacuum diaphragm inside that fails, which also would make your truck run a little rough due to a vacuum leak. All the cleaning in the world cannot repair it if that is the case. Hope that helps.

Put a vaccum first on the valve while the engine is running and see if the engine changes idle. If it does, it's not the egr valve. If it doesn't change you might have a carbon build up inside the throttle body. The egr valves hardly ever goes out. Usually it's a sensor, carbon, or vaccum line.

first you need to remove it ,then use a small screw driver or something like that and start cleaning the carbon away from it,clean it on both parts where the air enters and leaves it,also check and be sure that the passage way in it is real clean before you install it back on,you probably can re-use the same gasket if it didn't tear it up coming off, those aren't hard to clean but don't get in a hurry with it ,take your time, and that should help it,good luck with it.

Remove and replace. If you clean it, it WILL fail again, sooner then you think. Scraping and brushing leaves scaring where carbon will find it's way into them and causing faster build-up. In the long run it's cheaper and better for the rest of us that your doing your part so we can breath.
