There is no tax on prize winnings from lotteries in the UK. However, does something along this line sound familiar.... our of the blue, and without entering, you have received an e-mail (probably badly spelt and grammatically incorrect) telling you that you have won a substantial sum in a lottery. The e-mail informs you that there are charges (tax/ courier fee/ administration fee) payable before the winnings can be released to you. The mail requests that you send these fees to someone's bank account to ensure that your winnings can be forwarded to you.
Yes? Am I right? And if so, have you never heard of these obvious SCAMS before?

In UK there is no tax to pay on lottery or other gambling winnings.

There used to be a gambling tax but it was abolished some years ago.

Anyone worldwide can play the UK lottery [Lotto] on-line.

Sounds like you got one of those emails telling you that you have won some major prize. It's a scam, one of the very common ones these days. If you respond, they'll tell you that you have to pay a delivery or courier fee to get your prize, then if you send them the money, they'll just disappear.

Just delete the email, you didn't win anything.
