I don't understand federal work study. I know I have been awarded $1500 but once I have a job will I still get a paycheck?

If federal work study will only let me make up to $1500 for the school year then wouldn't it make more sense to just apply for a job w/o federal work study and earn more money?

Yes, you will.

It is based upon need, and you can earn up to the $1500 at the job that you perform. After you have earned that much you can't earn any more out of the federal work study account.

Yes. You will get a paycheck based on the pay schedule from the University or college that you will work for. Basically they have awarded you 1500 for the academic year and that's the maximum amount of money that you can earn at your job for the year.

The others are correct. This amount is based on your financial aid eligibility. The plus is that you can stay on campus and work. I did this when I attended college and worked in between class times. You can however work off campus at another job if you need additional funding. You can also check with your schools financial aid office to see if you can receive additional work study funds. My guess would be that you have been awarded the maximum amount at your school, but it doesnt hurt to ask. The most they can say is no.

Yes, you get paid like for any other job. The government picks up part of your paycheck, but you will see no difference.
