I want to join, but my friend says I'm a fool for joining during wartime. I dont think it's that big a risk. Numbers are on my side, right? I realize there's ALWAYS the chance, but I think odds are good that I'd be better off for joining, not worse. What do you think?

The National Guard? Your chances are slim that something will happen as to getting killed. You will not be on the front lines, you will be away from all the fighting. I applaud you for wanting to make a difference in not only your life, but the lives of other soldiers. There are some things you don't listen to coming from your friends, and this is one of them. Live your life for yourself, not for other people. Make a difference and be successful.

You can talk to your local National Guard recruiter and he/she will give you any information concerning the Guard. Good luck.

I don't see you joining as foolish. Being a medic means you will be sent where your skills are needed, the front lines where people are getting injured. I have a lot of respect for medics, pararescue types because they saved my butt! God bless you!

A -- close to 100% if you graduate within the next 6 months.

B -- numbers are on your side, but do you really feel like playing a lottery with your arms, legs and life?

you need to speak to the Guard unit that you would be in after you joined, the nearest one to you, no one here knows what will happen to you

As a Medic, there is a VERY high chance that you will be sent overseas - considering THAT is where the soldiers are getting injured and dying...
