I already wear glasses and have an almost new perscription for these glasses, but I find that driving at night and especially at night in the rain, its very difficult to see clearly as light appears as this colour bloom, nothing appears really sharp and anything that contains artificial light appears to be wonky in general. I have mentioned this to my eye doctor and he really wasnt any help. I'm at the point now where I feel unconfotable on the road at night especially if the roads are busy. Is there a solution to this?

Yes~you need anti-reflective coating on your eyeglass lenses. It is a coating that eliminates all glare off of your lenses, and is most commonly beneficial for night driving (for the reasons you have mentioned above) and computer use (for eyestrain reduction). Your optician should have offered this to you when you purchased the eyewear, if they were asking you the proper lifestyle questions to fit your lenses to your personal needs.

Do you have early cataract? It makes driving at night difficult.
Some people have a lot of natural distortion in their eyes and it is more evident at night when the pupil is big.

Humans do not have good night vision; unlike cats and dogs we do not have special structures in our eyes to enhance night vision. Rain makes it worse, as the shine on the wet roads makes it very difficult to see the white lines and the rain creates glare straight ahead as well as light passes through it.

Clean your windshield inside and out, clean your headlights, make sure your windshield wipers are working well. Other than that, if you feel unsafe driving at night, then don't drive at night.

Anti glare coating on your glasses will prevent glare from the glasses from boucing back to your eyes but will not prevent glare from the road, rain or other cars.
