It means that your fun to be with and he is having a good time right now. It does not mean that you have a future with him. That is a big age difference. Think about what his past history has been. Has he been married before? More than once? Kids? Does he see them? That will give you a better idea of whether this person is able to commit to anything or anyone for long. I wouldn't start betting my future on it.

Given that you've only been dating for 3 months, I'd think that's probably a reasonable answer. On the other hand, after 3 months of dating someone, you SHOULD have a good idea about whether or not your relationship is a "10". Maybe he's just at that point where he knows he's serious about you, which he obviously seems to be, but he's not quite sure if you guys are long term material. If I were you, I'd give the guy a break for now. Wait another month or two and ask him again. If you get the same answer then, well.. you'll probably have a lot to think about.

Well.... I guess 8.5 is on the higher end of the scale. But if he is 40 and not completely ready to get serious in your relationship, maybe it's a sign.

that means he wants to keep you as his prize and not ever pay for it......something like why buy the cow when the milk is free?
at his age, he should consider children will put him around 60 at high school graduation. is that what you want? there is a real big age gap at 30 and 50 and 40 and 60.
I say find someone your age to spend your life with. odds are he will die many years before you. move on honey!

To me it doesn't mean anything bad i just think he thinks it can be much stronger that's all nothing to worry about now if he said 5 then you have something to worry about and besides it's only been 3 months a 8.5 is good for three months.

i'd say that's pretty good. 3 months probably isn't long enough for a 10. especially considering the age difference, if he says he's that serious you know he really likes you.

It means that he can't believe you asked something so stupid like that and gave you an answer that was high enough that it sounded good but not so high that it made it sound like he was going to ask you to marry him next week.

it means he has lived his life and he is holding yours back! you are to young for him. live your life while you can because now he is going thru a mid life crissis and he is trying to see if he stills got it with the ladies! you are not from alabama are you? they like brothers date sisters down there
