His return is sooo complicated. Mine is easy. Do we have to file together because were married? I'm sick of doing his tax returns.

You can file separately, however you'll likely pay more in total taxes if you do.

Everybody else is right. If the return is so darn complex, hire a competent accountant and save more than the cost of preparation by filing jointly. You would not want to file jointly if you suspected your husband of fraudulent or criminal activity that might result in the assessment of additional taxes and penalties against both of you.

You can each file as married filing separately, but it will almost certainly cost the two of you more money in total.

Will filing separately really help? His still has to be done.

I agree with bostonianinmo, if you file separetaly you'll get less money back, and if you have kids that can mean a couple of hundred dollars at the very least.

You can each file separately. I'd suggest you do the forms both ways next year and compare to see which is more favorable. (Or make him do them...)
