Especially all the witty banter and analysis...

Yes and no...CSI is by far the worst IMO, and everyone thinks that's how things are done in real life. Sadly, I even know a few people that went and got degrees so they could be an evidence tech like on CSI. People that work in the lab do not go out and arrest and interrogate suspects. Some police officers-especially smaller departments will do the evidence collecting, but most larger departments have their own evidence techs, and that's all they do is collect evidence to send off to the lab. Also with CSI(I forced myself to watch 2 episodes just to see what the hype was lol), they have a lot of fancy gadgets, and while I'm sure some of that technology is available or out there somewhere, most is not used for your routine cases. It's just not realistic at all.

Now Law and Order, they don't get into all the fancy gadgets and stuff, but I think that show is much more on target-within reason anyway, with real life. Granted, you have to figure they're cramming a homicide, finding the suspect, trial, etc. all in an hour's time, so a lot is lost in the process. The witty banter, yeah, some of us are smart a$$es :) If you can't have fun at your job, then time to look for a new one....

Yes and no. I enjoy the program because it does show that every now and then, despite your best efforts, guilty people walk away.

As far as "witty banter" goes, those detectives need to be careful of who else hears the witty remark. "Cop Humor" tends to run to the dark side and can be very offensive to the more sensitive souls around us.

Analysis, following the evidence; is what a detective does. The main attribute is patience and a brain suited for puzzles.

Sometimes.

I remember one episode where two of the detectives (Fontana and the temporary guy) were conducting a search of a suspect's car, and the warrant specified a different car. Fontana wanted to just go ahead and do it anyway (as other police have done). His temporary partner insisted they call in the request for a change to the judge, and get the warrant amended for the other car, which is what the law requires.

Sometimes they get it right (as far as how the law works), sometimes they gloss over a lot of the details.

Texasstar said CSI is more accurate? Holy freakin' WOW.

CSI is by far the most retarded police drama out there (except for The Shield).

Crime scene and lab techs with guns and interrogation skills is so far from reality. Thanks to CSI everybody with a stolen car stereo wants their vehicle checked for DNA evidence.
Law and Order isn't too bad, but they do alot of coerced confessions and statements. They aren't beating people with phone books but they throw a lot of threats around.
To me the most far fetched aspect of Law and Order is the way the prosecutors are portrayed.

The biggest inaccuracy of Law and Order have to be the trial scenes. Actual trials are way more boring and way less melodramatic. The detectives in the show pull their weapons and get into foot pursuits way more than a real life homicide detective does. You would have more luck getting Michael Moore and Bill O'Reilly to sing a duet together than trying to get some of our detectives to run 50 yards.

As a Law & Order fan they usually do what they call "ripped from the headlines" episodes. They bring in what the news brought in and they change it up. Take the Brangelina and Britney/Kevin news for example. They change the characters but it's mostly true. They usually have "THIS EPISODE IS BASED ON TRUE EVENTS."

I don't know if this helped or not.

Its somewhat accurate but its more for entertainment than actually learning experience since the way they get most of their evidence would be illegal and everything would get automatically thrown out of court.

Things rarely work in real life like they do on TV and movies. That is why it is called entertainment.
