My new puppy gets revoloution once a month, I am going to start him on frontline plus though, but my indoor cats have gotten the fleas, I don't really like using the frontline or anything like it. Would a flea collar work the same, or is there something else I could try? I am getting them shaved down on friday, and I will have one dose of frontline plus put on them to get rid of the problem, but how should I prevent it another time?
Also are fleas around only in the spring and summer or are they in the fall and winter too?
Please help, I am really paranoid about fleas. They make me feel like I am a bad pet owner, or that I am dirty, but I am not.
Thanx for your help!!

Treating the cats for fleas, too, is the only answer. Otherwise the fleas will just go back and forth between the cats and the dog.

Don't use flea collars. They do more harm than good. Get Frontline for cats or Advantage for cats...they actually work and they won't harm the cats.

Do not use the Revolution for your puppy or any other flea medication made for dogs on the cats. You can use Frontline and Advantage for cats on dogs but not the other way around...dog remedies contain chemicals that are toxic to cats.

Fleas are a year-round problem in most areas. Even if fleas are not visible, their eggs are dormant and waiting for just the right conditions to hatch. I'd use flea remedies year-round. Each dose of Frontline or Advantage kills fleas and their eggs for a month.

You can buy frontline / revolution / advantage for cats as well. Use that - DO NOT USE THE DOG VERSION many cats get blood poisoning from using the dog version!!

DO NOT use a flea collar. My vet is totally against them due to the number of cats he has seen that have been poisoned by munching on their flea collars!

Fleas do tend to hybernate during winter, but frontline/advantage/revolution all contain worming treatments now so you must continue the treatment all 12 months of the year or you are not worming your dog/cat

Why not use the Advantage or Frontline? They are non toxic because they don't get absorbed into the cats bloodstream like other insecticides, like flea collars. Very safe and effective. They make Revolution for cats as well. We don't even carry it for dogs, because the flea control and dewormer part is lousy. It's a good heartworm prevention. You need to treat all the pets every month until no more fleas are being seen. It takes awhile for the thousands of eggs you DON'T see to hatch out and die.
