People have given their life for those they love,is this not the soul overiding the minds basic survival instincts ? would you call love a mental disorder or a definate indication of a soul seperate of the flesh?

It seems strange non believers trust that something they can"t see can be stored in their brain, also if the brain overides basic survival needs is that not a disorder. And what emotion is stronger than love? even hate and rage is either a responce of love or absents of the same.People will give their life for their children or go hungry for their sake how can this be a shallow emotion?

1 Thess 5:23
And the God of Peace Himself sanctify you wholly and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ

Man is a tripartite being.. made up of a body to contact the Physical world through the five senses...
A soul with the faculities of Mind Will and Emotions .. gives someone their personality an gives a sense of self consciousness

And deep within man is a human spirit to contact and contain God.. giving man God consciousness. The leading part of our spirit is our conscience.

So yes the soul is separate from the Flesh ( the body became the flesh after the fall)
It is in the emotions of our soul that we love people.. The emotions are made to love, its made to feel things that go beyond the physical realm. There is nothing odd about loving someone so much that they would give their lives for that person. This is the Love that God has for the World. He loved us so much that He paid the highest price to redeem us and bring us back into fellowship with Himself. To die for you enemy is no easy thing.. to lay down your life in this way is such a high price. We love so many people and even specific persons in our lives, but are we willing to give up our lives for them? Maybe there is that kind of love between parents and their children.. I feel the protective possessive love rising up in me that will make me ignore my deepest fears to save the life of my children. I am petrified of heighs and snakes but if my child is there I would hang off the highest cliff or risk being bitten by a pit filled with cobras to reach this one that my heart loves utterly. Some would look at this and say its insane.. but what the Lord did was so much deeper... He died for those that to this day would rather spit in His face and say He does not exist... to those that would be soft toward Him and say " thank You Jesus for Loving me unto Death" " I love you in return.. here Lord.. take my whole heart. it is Yours"

True LOVE is God and is NOT a mental disorder or mental anything. The "in love" stuff that we call love is a chemical reaction from within the brain and causes an attraction between the couple and actually, an attachment and emotional dependency. God set this up for the beginning of male/female relationships so there will be the bonding and holding period until commitment and true love can develop..., but true love as God describes in 1 Corinthians 13:1 -13. (If you are reading the King James version, the word "charity" means our word "love"; but the TRUE love as God knows love and God knows HIMSELF. God = Love. Please read this chapter and replace the word "God" in the place of charity or love. To GIVE is what God does best.., John 3:16.. "for God so loved the world that He gave...., etc." It's just the nature of LOVE; to give. When a mind and flesh are placed under the submission of a born-again spirit, that is the goal God set before us to accomplish! The "soul" IS part of the flesh until we are born again and asked Jesus to be our LORD. We ARE a spirit, we HAVE a soul (mind, will, emotions) and we LIVE INSIDE a body. Soul love is selfish, self-serving, defensive, dependent, controling. True LOVE is giving, serving, assured and all the other wonderful attributes listed in 1 Cor. 13.
By the way, it is stored in your spirit right in there with Jesus 'cause it is God in YOU.
The feeling some parents have toward children is often a sense of ownership rather than love. Men and women both will die for much less than love and it often is all about control. Remember, a stalker isn't about love, he's (she's) all about ownership and control and winning! No love involved.
Dying for your kids is a deep issue and the motive for God dying for His creation was LOVE. Your spirit is what we call "the heart", the core of you that came from God.

There's no soul.

There's no way to prove how the universe was formed or what happens when you die. That's why those are the cornerstones of religious doctrine. Even if everything else they claim is exposed as inaccurate, they will ALWAYS have that to fall back on.....so the mythical soul "lives" on.

BTW, love is a brain function, it alters the chemical balance in the brain. That's where the term "chemistry" comes from in regards to 2 people who love each other.

Wayne---I said it changes the chemical balance of the brain...that's how love can be seen.....are you dense or can't you read?

In the brain and endocrine system, perhaps?

We evolved the brain chemistry phenomenon of love because it gives us a huge evolutionary advantage. If mothers didn't love their offspring, but abandoned them at birth, we'd be extinct as humans don't breed as fast as other species with shorter gestation cycles. Love also imparts an evolutionary advantage to the group's survival by prompting us to occasionally perform an altruistic act that kills the individual, but spares the group--evolution is not so much about an individual's survival as much as the survival of that species' genes...

I would call it an adaptation that helped groups of early humans survive. Maternal love is the strongest kind, and accordingly it is the kind best suited to nurture a child to reproductive age.

love is a decision some keep in their wallet or consider a mental disorder if you disagree with the idea . but mostly people say it's a matter of the heart .

True love (unconditional love) is an aspect of soul. Who told you different? Romantic love is a mental disorder; its the state of the mind in infatuation. But the natural state of the soul is love, not love as an action or as a feeling, but as a state of being.

I think any mental state is evidence of a soul separate from the body, because mental properties are not physical properties.

The Mind of course... ( This is basic. )
Our common ancestor with dogs lived ~85 mya and it's obvious that love is a shared emotion ( Again... *basic*! )

[Edit]: Re YOUR "how can this be a shallow emotion?" A search here showed yours was the *ONLY* "shallow"! (?)

Are emotions stored in little compartments? I thought they were feelings generated by the brain and not actual things. Now that I know they have to be stored somewhere I'll have to clean out my "lust" compartment to make more room.
