Really, everyone who respects and obeys Jesus Christ goes from door to door to teach his neighbors about the Bible's good news. It is interesting that only Jehovah's Witnesses are so clearly identified with the preaching work; globally more than 6 million preach publicly each month.
(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you.
(Acts 5:42) Every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus.
(Acts 20:20) I did not hold back ...from teaching you publicly and from house to house
It's sad when someone who claims to respect the bible actually insults or even advocates attacking a peaceful preacher. Sad but completely expected.
(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching... You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.
Really, if someone goes out of their way to disregard Christian preachers and preaching, what is he saying about himself?
(Luke 10:1-17) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos... “He that listens to you listens to me too. And he that disregards you disregards me too. Moreover, he that disregards me disregards also him that sent me forth.”

It sounds logical. In my town JW's don't come by door-to-door, the Mormons do. At first I was polite and said no, but after the third time I started just not answering the door.
I do admire the fact that they ride there bike all around town, same two people always.

Most of you people would have had a problem with "Jesus, Apostles and early Christians because they went from door to door.
Acts 20:20 Â And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house,
"King James Bible"
The early Christians did not urge meek ones to believe in Jesus and then leave them to find their own way, as some modern preachers do. Rather, they taught them to become disciples of Jesus, organized them into congregations, and trained them so that they in turn could preach the good news and make disciples. (Acts 14:21-23) Jehovah’s Witnesses today follow that pattern.
When Paul learned the truth about Jesus Christ, what did he do? “Immediately, he began to preach Jesus, that this One is the Son of God.” (Acts 9:20) He appreciated God’s undeserved kindness to him, and he realized that everyone needed the good news that he had received. Paul was a Jew, and according to the custom of the day, he went to the synagogues to give a witness. He also preached from house to house and reasoned with people in the marketplace. And he was willing to move into new territories to preach the good news. Acts 17:17; 20:20; Romans 15:23, 24.

JWs are not going door-to-door here on this Yahoo! site, are they? Yet how many folks here have a problem with them?!? More than a few!
The method of prosyletizing is not the problem - it's the manner in which it is done that upsets so many people. Whenever people become aggressive about their personal faith and try to impose their views on others, there's friction. No surprises there. Yet when two people willingly engage in a debate, no matter how opposed their views are they will enjoy it. If JWs could learn the art of inviting people to engage with them in a non-threatening manner, they would gain far more listening ears. However, they are trained to go door-to-door, to overcome householder's objections, irrespective of whether individual JWs are suited for that PR job or not. ALL baptized JWs must go door-to-door if physically able (or they might not survive Armageddon, is the broad hint). Some JWs are so unsuited for this, they do the religion more harm than good. JWs would do themselves a favor if they rooted such ones out and gave them other jobs to do.
It's nonsense to say Christians are identified by going door-to-door sharing the gospel. JWs take scriptures out of context to imply this e.g. Acts 20:17-21 which actually has Paul telling fellow Christians how he taught THEM publicly and from house to house (i.e. the Christians' houses). They went to synagogues to preach to the Jews, and stood in public places for Gentiles. Christians today use a huge range of means to share the gospel with others and do not need to be regimented into door-to-door work and reporting their time. Finally, if only the JWs were going round with the real gospel, Christians could rejoice at that. But it's a false gospel. Let householders beware.

I totally disagree with you. It clearly is not my intention to be mean with you but you are another person who just cannot see how dangerous this religion (in my opinion it is a cult) really is. So many people focus (I see it all over here on YAHOO answers as well) on the religious squabbles and differences or the fact they go door to door or they do not salute the flag or give blood. As I have stated here many other times, those are surface issues that simply means they do not comply with the social norm.
My parents family and mine has been totally disrupted buy this religion. Here is a very small list: JW's have zero regard and or zero respect for other family members other faiths, JW conversion by a sibling on my incoherent mothers death bed, bringing a felon into my home without letting me know this person was in fact a felon, so the JW sibling could convert this felon (in my home) during what was supposed to be a vacation stay to visit me. The fear that if I let my guard down for one minute and act to nice to this JW sibling that is another opening for a conversion attempt, over and over and over, again and again and again. So I must always be on guard and never really open up to this sibling for fear there will be another attempt to convert me. That goes back to the zero respect they have for others religious values.
You are more than likely hoping that I am done, well I am not as there is also the very serious control issue the religion has over its people. Go to a web site called: silentlambs.org and there you will find children/teens/adults that have been molested by church members/elders and fear saying anything because they will be shunned buy the whole congregation including their own parents. Now that is very, very scary control.
In summery, like I said I disagree with you and you would be doing yourself a great service on educating yourself much further than my experience on this religion.

If it is an inconvenient time, just tell us. Look at Matthew 24:14 and 28:19,20. And look at what Jesus sent his disciples in his day to do.
We aren't trying to catch you at an inconvenient time, and truth be told, we feel quite badly when we catch people at an inconvenient time.

I wouldn't have a problem with any religion if people kept it at home or the church.
They can live as upright a life as they want. Just don't put your beliefs off on me.
