1. You take off your e-5 stripes, and get two 2nd Lt bars and put them on the shoulder boards.

2. I've never hear of ribbons worn on the right side, unit citations are worn on the right, I think thats what you've seen.

3. No big belt, sorry

4. diagnol stripes on the fore arm signifies your deployments, 1 stripe for every 6 months, it has nothing to do with rank.

5. yes, it has replaced the "bitchen hat"

There ya go buddy. Oh yeah, if you are going to be a new LT, when you commission you'll get a one time clothing allowance which is supposed to be so you can buy your dress blues, which is what the army will be switching to anyways. I'd advise you to go ahead and get em now, just so it doesn't feel like you're forking out $400 out of your pocket several years from now. Make sure you get the low riding pants, I'm not sure what they're called exactly, just don't get the pants that go up to your arm pits, which will probably be what they sell at clothing and sales. Both are authorized to wear now, but when they do make the switch to blues, only the low pants will be authorized, so that'll save you about a hundred bucks.

Sean, Jon and Armyflyer were only missing one item. I don't know what it is called but the black ribbon on the sleeve is a must for Officers and NOT on an enlisted uniform.

ArmyFlyer, back in Dino days the 35K's (95K now I think) would add switches to the overhead on Hueys and tag them "Do Not Operate" then watch the guys stare at it in pre flight. Usually one of them would toggle it saying WTF is this. Are the same games being played???
