so lets see, since cats start going into liver failure if they dont eat for 2 days and toilet water contains tons of bacteria (would you drink it?)...then you probably are going to have some EXTREMELY sick cats if not dead ones when you get home. good job. i really hope you never plan on having children.

Your cats will probably not die, but next time you leave the house for several days leave your pets with clean water, food and a litter box! If there are other items in the bathroom like soap, the cats could try to eat it if they were hungry enough but, i don't think they would, and that would probably make them sick. If there is a plant in there that might help them a little bit. Ignore the people cussing you out, because that doesn't help your situation in anyway! Come home as soon as possible, or call a neighbor or friend to go and check on them! The only thing that will be unpleasant when you get back is the mess the cats will make if you don't have a litter box for them. GET BACK SOON!! RIGHT WHEN YOU GET HOME FEED THEM ASAP!!!!
hope that this helped!

Whenever I had to leave town for anything up to a week, I would put out about 8 bowls of dry food, and several (4-8) very large bowls of water, as well as leaving the toilet seat up, and a very slow trickle of water from the kitchen faucet, and 4 cat boxes of litter. I also left a LARGE bag of dry food open, and laying on it's side, so they could get in it and munch if they wanted.
I must echo what everyone else has said: you were very cruel to leave them without any food. Dry food doesn't spoil, they can eat it any time they wish, and you wouldn't have any ill cats when you get home.

They start to go into failure after 72 hours of no food. As a previous poster said, you have surely sentenced them to a miserable death. I can't imagine anyone doing that to any living creature! Would you leave your child without food for 5 days? Hell, the kid could survive longer without food than the cats can! Unless you have an IQ of 5, this is a reprehensible act. What EVER possessed you to leave animals without food.
Making yourself feel better and the lame attempt to be a pet owner by stating they ate before you left makes my stomach turn. We have confiscated animals for cruelty charges that pale in comparison to this! Hell, even when people had to EVACUATE due to hurricanes and had to leave their animals behind, they left food and water and contacted agencies to go and rescue the animals or feed and water them once it was safe to go in.
I hope you enjoyed your little vacation and I hope the stench of the poor dead cats remains in your home for years to come to remind you of your deplorable behavior.

YOU SHOULD NOT BE A CAT OWNER!!!!!
Kittens (up to 6 months of age) need food THREE TIMES A DAY
Most adult cats get fed once/twice a day.
they should NOT be going without food for more than a 24 hours period.
And to make them drink out of a toilet! how about you worry about one of them slipping in a drowning?
Go surrender those cats to the nearest animal shelter unless you can be with them or at a minimum FEED them every SINGLE day!!!!

arent they gonna drown if they fall into the toilet?
and anyway even if a cat isnt dead five days without food, the eccessive hunger will permanently damage their stomach, liver, and any food related organ. And even if you feed them after you get home and they eat they will be dead in 48 hours because of the stomach liver damage. It happens too if a cat gets bored with his/her food and stops eating.
as ALL the people who answered your question, and yes i mean ALL of them, leaving a cat without food for FIVE DAYS?? seriously try this, go to a place where there is only dirty water to drink, no food, and no bathrooms and spend FIVE DAYS. it will probably clear your horrible conscience of leaving your cats without food for FIVE DAYS

I hope you realize that you are
dirt with a capital "D".
Call a relative or someone and
tell them to let your cats out and feed them!!! Call the
animal shelter and they will
have the Police let them in and
take the cats to the shelter.
I hope they break down your
door in the process. Why
don't YOU try going 5 days without food.

You didn't say if you have a litter box for them.
Instead of letting them drink from the toilet, you should have a bowl of fresh water for them. She needs electrolytes. In the U.S. we give Pedialyte but I don't know if you can get that.
You should take them to a veterinarian to see why they are not eating. This is very bad. It takes days for them to dehydrate but you have to make them better soon because starvation is a slow and painful death.

Why wouldn't you ask this question BEFORE you went out of town?!
My girlfriend worries when she spends the weekend at my place 8 miles away, but she always leaves plenty of food and water. But you aren't even in the same country?! Why not ask a friend or a neighbor to look out for them? Their litter box (and probably your shoes) are gonna be so full of crap....
BAD BAD BAD owner!

Send someone to feed them NOW. This is cruel and incredibly thoughtless - they could be very ill or dead!!!
I don't care who you get, just send someone now!
I would report you to the SPCA if I knew where you lived, you*******!!!!
P.S. your source says cats can lose 40% of body weight and survive - show me ONE cat that did that - did you test this theory on yours? Even adult humans, who have much slower metabolisms, can live 21 days before starving. Hmm, average human - 150 pounds, average cat - less than 10 pounds.....Think about it.
