this is a tough question. if you believe in God, his creation involves chickens, not eggs. if you believe in Darwin's theory of evolution, then the chicken evolved slowly into what we have today, so therefore, the egg came first, from the little-bit less evolved chicken.

Chicken- God created animals-i.e. the chicken. Then, they lay eggs. So, chickens are before the eggs.

The egg
It fell from sky..God threw it onto our earth
Then with the heat of the sum in the summer(im sure the egg fell down in summer), it hatched into a chicken
infact there were two eggs which fell
one became hen and the other became male chicken(it censors the name..so i had to put this)
just like adam n eve..and here we r today..making roasts, tandoori and lots of other stuffs with the offsprings of the first feathery romantic couple!

That depends on your views, for religious people, an easy answer would be that God made two chickens of the opposite sex in which produced the vast number of chickens today, or thew scientifc view, which is not of yet to my knowledge..
