I share your concerns, but I think our generation (yours and mine) will turn things around. On every poll I look at, I see that younger people are less fundamentalist, more scientific, and have better taste in music.

Yes, there ARE a lot of crazies out there. What amazes ME is that a LOT of them have made HATE posts right here in Yahoo. Do they REALLY think that Yahoo doesn't take every "Abuse Report" seriously? Especially the ones that contain veiled threats like "suffer not a Witch to live"? Their onscreen names may be anonymous to US, the readers. BUT, they're NOT anonymous to Yahoo at all. Yahoo KNOWS who they are and is perfectly free to hand their identities over to the proper law enforcement authorities at any time it decides that enough is enough. You'll notice that those folks who make such posts dissappear in a hurry from YAnswers. As they make new identities their computors STILLL give off the SAME DNR address. As they make NEW threatening posts, YAnswers deletes those accounts. Again they do it and eventually Yahooo builds up enough evidence that they can then use to prosecute those individuals. ONLY the REALY agregious cases will ever be heard about in the news BUT, I'm sure that most will simply wind up in prison without anyone even knowing who they were, except for their immeditate family and friends, who will take notice and decide to NOT pursue that avenue of persecution themselves.
No, it won't completely rid the world of those types, but it'll sure reduce their numbers to a more manageable level.

This is a microcosm with a specific topic. Everything religious is magnified here, including feelings.
Out here in the so-called "real world," few Christians are radical and I've never personally met a radical Muslim (just your normal Muslims who want to live in peace). In some places, yes, the Dark Ages are going on. In the USA, even in the belly button lint of the Bible Belt, too many Christians are lackadaisical about it. They're the "Sunday-go-to-Meetin', but only if the game isn't on" Christians who only practice it on Sunday mornings, but usually ignore it the rest of the week.

hi! i hope that i am not being rude to you, but whats with people coming on here and saying:
"Sometimes, when I am here on Yahoo Answers, and see all this religious dogmatic hate and mudslinging, it scares me!"
there is a war going on! people are crashing planes into buildings, rape, murder and none of that happens here. are you saying that YA scares you but the real world occurances dont bother you?
what you stated as happening or building uphere has been going on for thousands of years already out there.
as far as heading back to the dark ages? yes!
humanity is steadily heading downward- 50 years of resouces left and so on and people are being optimistic? wow! thats all ihave to say.

I know exactly what you mean. People from religions who profess to stand for love and truth, attacking anyone and anything they deem outside their sphere of belief, and then to have the audacity to claim their hate-mongering, bigotry and intolerance is gods will, and self-righteously hide behind that excuse.
It is scary, scary stuff!

I think it's depressing. Sometimes I just sit and think about all the fantastic things that humanity is capable of, and how unlikely it is that we will ever manage to live up to our full potential, all because some untenable idea has a strangle hold on the minds of the overwhelming majority.

I think yahoo answers is not particularly representative of Christians. Besides, they can be anonymous and, by the nature of this forum, our answers can't particularly be countered.

It is frightening. That is why I'm here... to try and sway those who might be open to reason and critical thought about their religion. More people need to wake up from the delusion.
The republicans losing power is a good start, but unfortunately, the democrats are starting to argue over which one is more delusional (religious) than the other. It's sad.
Fortunately, scientists are starting to speak out more against "religiousity" and not letting the fundies have all the say. They used to politely back away from disagreements,... now they take 'em on full blast. That's a good sign.

I try to stay positive.
America is a very new country (relatively speaking). I think we are actually going through our Dark Age now, and will emerge from it soon.
Maybe we are emerging already.

Living in the West I don't think so, however it must be hell to be a freethinker in some of the more fundamentalist Muslim countries.
