I am staying over at a friends house for the night. I found out that I left the stuff I usually use for my disposable contacts at home. It's late and I can't call to get any. Is it okay to put them in tap water for the night? We live in a good area, so the tap water is pretty clean.

DON'T USE TAP WATER. You may think the tap water is clean in your area but no matter how clean you think it is, IT'S NOT. Tap water contains many minute microbes and also the tap water won't rid your contacts of the debris that has gathered on them throughout the day. Your contact lens solution contains enzymes that rid your contacts of harmful bacteria. Tap water just can't do this. If you can't borrow some solution from your friend, then throw the contacts away or you might risk infection from keeping them in the tap water.

tap water is not sterile and even t hough it is treated so that it is potable (Drinkable) there are germs that your stomache can kill that your eye can't than can get lodged in a lense and grow over night into many many germs, and it will not kill the germs that are on your lense to begin with. So, basically you would end up with a lnese that is dirtier than toilet water in the morning and could get a nasty infection, and it is not good for the lense to be out of the saline environment. If you have to, boil some distilled water and put them covered in there, but I really would not wear them until they could be disinfected.

No. Tap water can contain parasites called acanthamoeba that can cause very serious eye disease.

If you must store them in tap water overnight:

Boil the water for 10 minutes, allow to cool then store. Do not put the lenses back in your eyes in the morning. Take your lenses home, call your fitter and have your fitter disinfect them with hydrogen peroxide solution before you wear them again.

I wouldnt. Tap water isnt sterile and doesnt have the minerals and stuff that solution has in it. It can cause eye infections and stuff if you put them back in. Even if you wash them in solution afterward. I would just wear your glasses and throw that pair away or go buy or get the solution from your house.

i've got carried out that till now, too. Saline is in basic terms salt water - do not pay attention to the folk telling you to not use salt on your lenses. on an identical time as you don't want to make it a habit, your lenses are in all probability in basic terms high-quality. it is obtainable to get an infection, yet provided that there are micro organism interior the faucet water. there is likewise (hint quantities of) iron in maximum faucet water, and that's not sturdy on your contacts - that's part of the clarification you should get new lenses each and every 300 and sixty 5 days, even in the adventure that your prescription hasn't replaced. Ah, you suggested month-to-month lenses. Even greater constructive - you isn't donning them long adequate to construct up a great style of minerals. i could positioned on them, as long as they have been nevertheless comfortable. i does not rinse them with faucet water, although. i've got carried out that - it DRIES THE LENSES OUT! HA! i think of they are greater comfortable in case you place them in immediately from the salt water. (determine you do not use too plenty salt, although, reason you may desire to scratch your lenses, or your eyes!) additionally, be careful of touching your eyes after coping with jalepenos. Ouch.
