if you truly think god has a plan for your life, have you ever stopped to consider:
1. there are poor, hungry, dying people all over the world, is this his plan for them? p.s. if you've never been to a third world country, you should go, it will open up your eyes and mind.
2. why would an all-powerful being be concerned with such soap-operatic drama that he entertains himself by watching humans fulfill his ''plans''? i.e. don't you ever feel like a pawn being used in a sick, perverted chess match.
3. what does your part in this ''universal plan'' actually accomplish? because it seems as this ''plan'' of his is failing miserably.
4. if there actually is a plan, is jesus a ''referee'' of sorts.

I don't have an answer, I'm not Christian. But this felt like a slap in the face, from an answerer.

"It's not necessarily a bad thing to be poor or hungry. "

So it's ok for someone to be starving and ill for about 30 years before they die, because they're going to go to Heaven? Most of those poor and hungry people won't even have access to the word of God they need to accept Jesus Christ as their savior. No TV, no radio, most likely they don't go to church. I know if I was in a 3rd world country and bloated from lack of food and barely able to walk I would have a pretty hard time getting to a church- or even knowing where one was.

It's fine for you to say such things, when you're sitting on the internet, probably in a comfortable chair, in a comfortably temperatured house, knowing you have a cupboard full of food. Turn off the water, the electricity, sleep outside, and just don't eat for a week, then see if you can honestly say it's not a bad thing to go hungry.

Edit: Also, if you've ever looked into the eyes of a starving three year old who lost his or her parents to war or famine...or lost a limb..or their senses...the one thing they don't have at ALL is hope. That's the LAST thing they have.

You are probably right on a couple of points.
I will answer the four questions numbered first than top them off with the plan in the beginning.
1) Yes and no, I have been to other countries, and that is not His plan. that is a result of mankind. My eyes, mind and my heart have felt the pain of those beautiful people.
2) God probably is not entertained at all by the actions of evil and uncaring people. I feel like a pawn with the world governments and the political atmosphere that permeates out society.
3) I would not characterize it as a "universal plan", that sounds more like insurance. The reason for any kind of plan from God is the making of a relationship. To accomplish any kind of plan or directive one needs basic rules. An objection first of all, a path to follow, some direction of that path, and survival skills for the journey. Once the destination is reached all is successful. When a parent sends their child on to school for the first time, the basics come into play. The parent doesn't expect the child to fail miserably and fall into a life of crime as they grow up.
4) Yes there has always been a plan, for every person that has ever lived. Jesus did not come down to start a religion(s)
Jesus came down to offer himself as the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of all mankind. That all we would have to do is believe in him. By believing in him that would mean to believe in what he said and did and how he lived it also. Jesus was not a referee, he was the Annointed Savior of the world, that is what his name means. Yeshua Hamashiach/Messiah(Hebrew), Jesus Christ! Read John 3:16.

1. Third world countries: since I'm not God, I don't know His plans - but I do know that we should be "spreading the wealth" around and since we (the corporate we) are the richest nation in the world, we should be feeding and educating - of course, their governments built mostly by non-Christians, would have to at least let us in and maybe even help us a little bit. For instance, the government of Mexico sets the maximum wage that can be paid - business controls the government - why do you think they are so poor? The free will of those in power to help their people directs what they do. Check out The Salvation Army web sites - you will be amazed - they serve in 109 countries quietly, efficiently and their Officers (who are all Christian pastors) do it for the love of God and very little in the way of worldly remuneration.
2. No - it may be tough to understand Christians, but I, for one, am dedicated to doing what I think God's plan is - that is devoting what I can to helping and caring for others - that is what a follower of Christ is to do. I know that God opens doors for me to help when others use their free will to hurt.
3. Try visiting a nursing home - where people in your town are wasting away - lonely and hurt and unable to participate in life (let alone the debates we all enjoy so much) - His plan for me is that once in a while they smile again - and, if you don't find it "gross" - hold a gnarled old hand. It will do more for you than you can imagine.
4. Jesus is the example and the judge - not the referee. There are no "time outs" and no "do overs" - you have this one chance to make it count.

(PS - one more thing - don't brag about it when it's done)

Do those things make me egotistical? OK - then that's what I am.

Just one more question for you - was this really a question or just another good old-fashioned Christian bashing. Sorry, don't mean to be cranky - but, it can get tiresome. (note: "free will" used deliberately ;))

God Bless

Who can know why other people are like they are. Personally, I think God has a plan and I'm privilege enough to be a part of it.

1. What you see is the result of sin, not God's plan.
2. No I never feel like a pawn. I feel like a child of the Almighty God who is loved.
3. Any you are an expert on His plan? Or do you mean that the plan you think God would have is failing miserably?
4. Jesus is the mediator between God and man.

I've been to many 3rd world countries. Worked in orphanages and seen some of the happiest people on earth in those countries too.

Speaking of egoistic, with all due respect, why do you think your view of how things should be, should also be how God's view?

2007-07-09 15:23:04 · answer #4 · answered by Anonymous · 1 0

"why are people so egoistic to think god has a plan for them?"

Why do people who don't claim to know God so official in their views of Him? Where do they get the idea that God doesn't care about them when they don't even know He exists?

"1. there are poor, hungry, dying people all over the world, is this his plan for them? p.s. if you've never been to a third world country, you should go, it will open up your eyes and mind."
Well, when I was poor and hungry, God let me know that He was there. So now I am trusting Him and not poor and hungry anymore. We have to start somewhere you know.

"2. why would an all-powerful being be concerned with such soap-operatic drama that he entertains himself by watching humans fulfill his ''plans''? i.e. don't you ever feel like a pawn being used in a sick, perverted chess match."

Because He promised that He would care for us if we trusted Him. Is this difficult for you to understand? God made promises and He keeps them. That's the point of trusting Him. This isn't exactly new stuff!

"3. what does your part in this ''universal plan'' actually accomplish? because it seems as this ''plan'' of his is failing miserably."
I'm doing it right now. I trust Him, and His promises are valid. He won't do that for people who don't trust Him. His plan is failing? To you? Heh. And you don't trust Him, right? Does it seem that you are missing something vital?

"4. if there actually is a plan, is jesus a ''referee'' of sorts."
Jesus is the reason why I have hope. Call Him a referee if you want to, it's just that you seem like a stray caught out in a storm.

Reading your scorching question leads me to think that nothing I say will satisfy you, but it's in my nature to try anyway.

1. Those third world countries are a horror, indeed. I haven't visited them, but I've heard and seen enough to know they're full of starving people who don't have much, if anything, to look forward to. No, this is not His plan at all. (Do you actually think it is?) If God was the only one at work here, then no such horrors would exist. Satan is very powerful, as well, and very real, as if you didn't know. (You probably won't buy into this part of my explanation.)

2. Do you actually believe that our God entertains himself by watching us, or would that be sarcasm as well? I don't feel like a pawn at all. I'm very much at peace (a non-egoistic peace, at that) with the way I live. My fiance and I try to give and forgive each day, without preaching to others (for that does annoy some). We try to spread peace and happiness throughout.

3. Our actions accomplish smiles and inner goodness. Don't you think that is worth it? Surely!!!

4. I'm not quite sure what you mean by referee.

Why vent your anger and frustration at us, mere strangers? If you don't follow God, and you say our God's ways are failing, then it seems your ways are failing as well, for you seem ornery and hateful, and your words are full of biting sarcasm and criticism. I do wish you well.

Hmmm....

1. Possibly, because they don't 'beleive' in God. Unbelievers suffer until they come to God. (so says a christian that just tried to convert me ) :)

2. Free Will. We are allowed to make our own choices.....

3. We don't know the Universal Plan, so we can't do anything about it. Just beleive that there is a reason to be here, at this point in time.

4. Nope, he is the right hand of God. (all opinions of a local Christian to me)

NOW: My opion is different. There is an All-Powerful diety somewhere. Not necessarily a Universal plan, but we have life, we are to live it to thebest of our abilities. The people starving to death in 3rd world countries need assistance to turn their countries around.

The only plan I can see for my life, is to ensure my little piece of the world is better than when I got here...and since i move every few years, I am constantly improving little bits of my world :)

I agree with you. People think that 'God' has a special plan for them, and everything is destined in their special book, while angels are following them to make sure they are ok. You make a good point, where are the angels who are supposed to be protecting the poor children in third world countries? Religion is a fictional story and is It is egocentric, and selfish. The only god is the very earth we live on, which creates the food we need to survive, where is the respect for her?

#1) there is a purpose for all experiences.

#2) because they are all powerful. more specifically due to the nature of such an "entity" theres no reason not to be. only a petty finite being would be egotistical enough to be *not* concerned.

feel like a pawn? not really.

#3) it brings the universe back to perfection, while being expanded and more complex.

#4) no. hes just a guy, like you and me.

I think the most likely scenario is that there is no god.
I dont really see how this actually works out:
in the book of life is there a coss reference to the great book of life plans with what 10 billion little special blurbs:
Malik- starvation until dead.
Slovania- landmine at age 6, having no legs will really really help her grow spiritually
baby Smith- brain cancer until dead
