How much do passports cost. How long does it take to actually get them?

I had a friend recently get one for about $60. She went to a post office in a town where they have a ranch, and it was back in 10 days.

A passport will cost you (each person):

Age 16 and older: The passport application fee is $67. The execution fee is $30. The total is $97 .

Under Age 16: The passport application fee is $52. The execution fee is $30. The total is $82 .

The passport application fee includes the $12.00 Security Surcharge, which became effective March 8, 2005.

You should click on this link to the US passport office which will answer ALL of your questions:

There is a backlog in the processing of passports so check what the Passport office (website) is saying currently about processing times. At one time it was about 6 weeks but now is much longer.

Sorry about my last response which I am now editing. Times have changed since 10 years ago. Your question led me to check on my own passport, and I discovered that it expired March of this year. I went to the post office and learned that the renewal fee is now $67 with a 12 week delay. For an Additional $60 you can get one expedited in about a week. The price of passport photos have probably gone up too—maybe $10 at Kinko's or FedEx. A new passport is now $97, and I assume there is the same expedited charge of $60.

Still good advice is if you live in an area where there are suburbs, you can probably wait less long in line. I was the only one in my post office passport office today. To find the closest office near you consul::

I think the current fee is $75, but you have to include the photos.

It usually takes about three weeks unless you go to one of the immigration offices, then it it could take a couple of days....

HOWEVER, I have heard that since the passport will soon be required for ALL trips outside the US including Canada and Mexico, the office has been swamped and people may have to wait as long as six months.

If you are a minor, it will take longer and expect to see a local judge or an acceptable officere of the court to verify birth certificate, etc.

my passport costs me $65.00 and it takes about 5 to 7 days to get your new passport.

If you need a passport right away, I would speak to the Ministry of Foregin and Externial Affairs.
