I've heard all sorts of stories, drill sgts not yelling, recruits getting stress cards to raise when ever they feel stressed, recruits getting to keep electronics and cell phones to use in their free time, and recruits actually getting free time. It sure has changed in the few years since I've been through. Then again I went to Benning, and there was atleast a couple suicides, and soldiers going awol in the 2 months I was there, so maybe kids today just can handle the way it used to be, and maybe this change is for the best. It just seems like pvt's today have no disipline which I blame on poor basic training.

i attend military school and although it is true that the army DOES go a little bit easier in basic training, only for the sole reason that people were getting injured and sometimes death because of the rigid training. Don't think that it's easy however. Depending on where you're stationed, you usually have easy access such as telephone or email, and always writing to your family.

well, as far as the 'screaming in your face' thing, it rarely happens, but, as has been said, if you make yourself a target by not living up to expectations (not following the rules, trying to sneak contraband, fraternizing, not keeping up with training) you'll find that you'll experience more than you might anticipate.
as far as allowing you to speak with your family more on your free time... well, perhaps, but then again, you'll have that opportunity if and when you get a pass, which would happen on weekends, if you fulfill expectations for that week, and if you aren't on an ftx (field training exercise). bring a phone card with you (cell phones are NOT allowed in basic), and expect to not call that often. oh yeah, e-mail is NOT an option during basic. sorry.

:-) Im not sure if its true or not but I don't want someone defending our country who can not tolerate being yelled at. It does not prepare one for REAL combat. I was in basic about 7 years ago and they yelled ALOT and you ran ALOT and I never died from it and no one else did either. As far as your "free time" goes? Well, correct me someone if I am wrong but no you don't get to chat for hours on the phone with your spouse/kids etc. there are about 150 more people waiting to use the phone.......

IT depends on what base your BCT will be in. IF its for Benning, and your infantry, they will be up in your face a lot. If your going to relaxin' jackson, then they wont. Fort Knox I hear is hard, but benning is the worst.

But dont worry, its all mind games, when you look back in a few years, you will laugh at the fact that they actually intimidated you.

Yes it is true. They have become less strict at BCT because they think it will help the future soldiers more willing to mork as a team and that it will build their morale as soldiers and people.

I personally like the old way better.

Don't know about US Army, but where I served the warmest words I heard are: "Feeling bad? Look up in the sky and search for Superman. He's the only one, who can help you, you worthless piece of @$&*!!!"
Your vocabulary will grow, that's for sure. :-)

I reckon they still get in your face as much as possible. but yes, I understand that you have more time to contact family. It still isn't a cake walk, but I believe every American should serve.

it's completely true. Every branch of military except the marines has made their bootcamp much more civilized. That is why the marines are the best
