After going through a nightmare infestation, I have to admit, the bombs didn't really work for me... I tried both the bombs and the ones that create a vapor, but they still came back, even when the cat was given a flea bath during the bombing by a professional vet. They kept coming back after a few weeks.
I did find a solution that worked permanently: It was on the shelf of my vet's office and it was a powder of "orthoboric acid".. I had to sprinkle the powder on all of the carpet, and use a pushbroom to work the dust into the fibers of the rug... you have to leave it in there for 24 hours. Sure enough, the fleas were gone and never returned. The powder costed me $50 to cover the whole house (about 1600 square feet).. a bargain compared with the hundreds that I wasted on using flea bombs multiple times.
Note: This technique will work for you provided you have a significant amount of carpet in your home.

In the home, borax powder in the carpets or flea sprays are useful. On the pets, it is best to buy Advantage (you can buy one dose at a time). If there were good home remedies, we wouldn't need all those flea products! Dawn will kill/drown the fleas on the pet, but it will also strip all the good oils from the skin as well. It does nothing to prevent reinfection from contaminated environment--where 95% of the eggs, larvae, and cocoons are hiding.

Sprinkle Borax Powder ( near the laundry items in the grocery store) around your house and sweep it in the carpet or tile cracks. Let it set overnight and then vacuum. You may have to do this 3 or 4 times. Also wash your dogs in the blue Dawn detergent. Let it set on him for a few minutes before rinsing him. You want to kill the fleas and the eggs.

20 Mule Team Borax works great in killing fleas and their eggs around your house. It's a laundry detergent. Just sprinkle it everywhere i.e. in the carpets, bedding, all around the house. We had a flea problem when we first got our one kitten, and that drastically cut down on the number of fleas. It's not a 100% fix-all. You'll have to get your pets treated as well. I highly recommend Frontline. Kills fleas literally within minutes of application. Go to your vet for medicine, don't buy the stuff in stores. Many of those products are capable of killing your pet.

To easily and cheaply kill fleas on your dog, wash with ivory soap, followed by a good thourough combing with a fine tooth comb. You must also launder the dogs bedding in hot water and vaccumn a lot to get any fleas out of the carpets and floor boards. Make sure you use Ivory-it has something in it that kicks fleas butts!!!

Are the fleas on your dog or in your house? On your dog a very simple and effective soloution to killing fleas is to bathe your dog with Dawn dishwashing soap (the regular not concentrated kind). In your house, really just need to bomb and vaccum.
