It is bad. Very risky. The amount of pleasure the dog gets from eating the bone is not worth the risk of splintering his intestines to the point of perferation. Don't do it.

As long as the bone is RAW and not cooked. Never give a dog any type of cooked bones. Mine love raw bone marrows that they get all the time. It fulfills their chewing needs and is a great way to clean their teeth!

Very! Cooked bones are especially bad. There are no safe bones to give your dog except raw knuckle bones and they should be supervised while they're chewing on them.

Call any vets office and they will tell you of the impacted and perforated intestines they've had to deal with surgically because of ingested bones--raw or cooked. Stick to safe dog toys.
