I have a lutino lovebird who is less than a year old, and ever since I got her, (I didn't know this was something to look for) she's had a soiled vent (butt). She doesn't act sick in any other way (doesn't puff up her feathers or hang out at the bottom of the cage) and she eats just fine and isn't super skinny or overweight. She's started to lose more feathers (she didn't have many down there anyways) because she's always scratching at it (it must itch). I've tried baths to keep the skin moisturized, different over-the-counter meds, and even changing her diet for a while (it wasn't the food). We don't have a vet in town anymore since ours died in a car accident a few weeks ago, so I can't go see a vet. Any idea what could be wrong with her and how to fix it?

It's not caked on or really bad, it's just white around the actual anus. It was worse a while ago, but seems to have gotten better since then (I just had a look)

It can be as "simple" as dehydration and as serious as a life-threatening disease. If you really can't go to a vet, try to treat the dehydration to see if it helps. If not, please seek a vet nearby or at least call one.

Possible parasite infection, like giardia. Or a bacterial infection. I'd drive to the next town to find an experienced avian vet before she gets worse. Yikes--sorry about your vet!
