It probably means he's anemic. He needs to be seen by a vet asap. It could be from fleas or worms or some parasite.

As has been mentioned it is anemic. Needs to be seen by a vet. May have a heavy worm infestation, or flea infestation. The vet may prescribe iron or if it is bad enough, the dog may need blood. Someone once dropped off this dog at our house. He was covered I mean totally covered in ticks when I found him, white gums and could not move. It was tick paralysis. There were thousands of the large blood filled gray ticks, and he also had maggots on him. I called my vet, told him I was bringing him in. I had already dipped him to kill as many of the ticks as I could. The girls at the vets and I pulled them for the longest while the vet was doing surgery on another dog. He pulled the dog thru with lots of meds, blood, i.v's, kept him 2 days, etc. The vet knew it was a rescue situation and only charged me $60.

Blood loss or anemia. In puppies, often from intestinal parasites (hookworms) or flea infestation.
Gums will also appear white when a pet is in shock, like after a car accident.
White gums are very serious and the dog could have something very life-threatening. An immediate trip to the vets is in order!

Dehydration is also a cause for pale gums. Whatever the reason, a dogs gums should never be pale and a trip to the vet is in order. I would get the dog to a vet ASAP.

It means the dog needs a vet. If the gums aren't nice and pink your dog is anemic. Have you had your dog vet checked? If not, you should take it in immediately.
