I am not bashing gays. However if we grants marrige rights to gays, then the activist groups for people who have sex with animals will want the same rights. People who want to marry their mother, or sister, will want the same rights. People who want to marry toddlers and babies will want the same rights. People who want to marry hundreds of other people will want the same rights. People who want to marry dog shitt will want the same rights. People who want to marry insects will want the same rights. People who want to marry dead corpses will want the same rights. And thus Pandora's box is flung wide open to all kinds of freaky things.

Well lets look at this question through legal eyes and see if it can be logically argued.

Premise:
1-Marriage is a Contract. It is a legally binding agreement. If you don't believe that, what what happens in a divorce court!

2-If marriage is a contract you must be 18 (or whatever your state laws says it is) to enter into this contract. Why? Because minor can not enter into a legally binding contract. Marrying under that age is also against the law as one of a myriad of child protection laws.

So this would disclude your concerns about marrying to young. That problem is solved.

In order to enter into a contract you must be able to READ and AGREE to the contract. Animals can not do this. Problem solved again.

While there are certain genetic reason not to marry with in the family, if someone really wants to, let them. After all Cain married his sister and Job daughters bore him a child, and "gawd" did not punish them, so there is biblical precident.

Gay civil unions (government approved but not church approved marriages) have be going on in Europe for some time now... and things are working just fine there.

So I fail to see any reason outside of religion to not allow gay marriages. If we are going to go by Christian law, then we also need to execute people for working on the sabbath and eating shell fish and many other old testament laws.!

Silly humans.. don't you have anything better to do?

The countries and states which have already legalized gay marriage do not, to the best of my knowledge, have any of these problems.

There is no reason to assume that such a thing would happen. It is quite easy, actually, to see that it would be impossible for a person to marry an animal or child, as animals and children (and feces and dead people) cannot enter into legal contracts. There is sufficient legal precedent to disallow close relations from marrying, as well.

Define marriage as a legal contract of civil union between two consenting adults. No "Pandora's Box" there, see? It's not quite the slippery slope that so many opposed to equal rights would have you believe.

Sarcasm warning - Holy cow, no we should never allow them gays to marry. Look what a mess it caused when we allowed blacks and women to vote! it will bring down our society as a whole and throw everything into disarray! Seriously, what harm can allowing gays to marry cause in your life? Most businesses now approve of same sex unions and the VAST majority of insurance company's now allow same sex coverage. It is stupid that closed minded people have an issue with this. If someone wants to step up and give a good valid reason why two people who love each other should not get married step up. I would love to see something other than - them damn queers, or spreading aids, or other unsubstantiated junk like that.

Amazingly enough, we already have people in our country who would like to legalize marriage between older folks teenagers. Who hasn't heard of the "Man Boy Love Association"? Or do people really think they just "disappeared"?
If gays can get married, why not these man-boy couples? The "man" could be in his forties, or even fifties, while the "boy" might be just barely "legal age"...in fact, if his parents will sign for him, he might get married as young as maybe fifteen or sixteen, depending on the state he lives in.

And then, there are people who do, indeed, advocate making it legal for them to have sex with their pets.
If the dog or the goat enjoys it, why not? Who are you to say it doesn't enjoy it? Why not define "animal abuse" as being something that actually harms or brings pain to the animal? After all, it isn't YOUR business what goes on in someone else's bedroom...at least, so I've been told.

I have to laugh at those folks who advocate same-sex marriage on the grounds that "animals do it"...as if we ought to model our sexual behavior on what we see in the animal kingdom. Animals do, indeed, mate with their own young...some animals will try to mate with anything that holds still long enough...who has not heard of the mother-in-law's dog, for instance, who will try to hump your leg under the dinner table at Thanksgiving?
Sure, that's funny, it made us all laugh...but unfortunately, bad things do happen. Tragically, I once knew a man who had to put his pit bull down, because it tried to rape their children...
Just because a certain behavior occurs in the animal kingdom, does not mean that it would be a good idea to make it legal...or acceptable...among human beings.

EDIT:
There are already people involved in older man-young guy relationships...that has been going on for a very long time. For some reason, I don't remember reading much about lesbian relationships in history...maybe because women just weren't important enough. And there are already people who are having sex with animals. As they say..."where the men are men...and the goats are scared"...yep, it really is happening.
I don't know why people try to keep this stuff locked in the closet! We all know it happens, so why not admit it?
Now, whether or not lifting homosexuality from a perversion (which it is) to decency by making it legal will bring all the rest of the weirdos out of the closet is anyone's guess.
I remember reading a story in my Uncle's Penthouse magazine about "The Happy Hooker" and her experience with a guy who wanted her to roll eggs at him while he stood at the end of the hallway in a wetsuit.
Think about that wedding!
Would the guy marry the chicken, or the eggs?

Would it be polygamy if the guy married a dozen eggs???

Well, that's just about the silliest post I've read on this subject here.

Marriage is a legal contract between people who are LEGALLY eligible to be married. One of the main requirements is that the parties consent to the marriage.

Seeing as how toddlers, dog doo and corpses could not possibly indicate consent, how on earth would they get married?

As for you other objections, there are plenty of places where marriage can involve more than two people, and the system works perfectly weel.

Considering that marriage is basically a legal method of ensuring financial and civil rights, what on earth is the objection to anyone getting married to wants to?

Honestly, think your objections through before you just chuck out a line, please!

Wow! You're right. Christians might want to marry heathens. Whites might want to marry blacks. Good Americans might want to marry foreigners. Where will it end? Sounds like this marriage concept might be a bad idea all around. Maybe that's why there are so many divorces. Might be best to just abolish marriage altogether along with any legal consideration of it at all. Let's do it! Thanks for the good idea.

i dont think this will happen because sleeping with animals is animal cruelty and there are definitely more cons than pros for all the other options. legalizing gay marriages will not be like opening Pandora's box because the marriage will still be between two humans and gay relationships aren't exactly a new thing. there have been homosexual relationships probably just as long as there have been heterosexual relationships.

That's ridiculous, and a tired argument. Same thing was used when people wanted to overturn the anti-miscegenation laws. "If whites and blacks married, well, who knows what comes next!" Huh. One major difference between two gay adults and everything else you mentioned is that adults, gay and straight, are capable of giving consent. Children can't, legally, nor can animals. Even if they can say yes, they don't understand what they're saying yes to. This is why pedophilia and bestiality are never going to be legal in this society.

And incest? Incest is the only universal taboo that anthropologists have been able to find. Murder, rape, abuse: there are many gradations of meaning and exceptions across cultures. But incest is pretty solidly a no, at least as refers to relations between parents and their children. Our society has put relations between all immediate family members into the same category as that one universal taboo. I don't think we're going to be able to break that one any time soon.

Besides, I've been waiting and waiting for Massachussetts to turn into one huge multi-species orgy, and it hasn't happened yet. In fact, they have the lowest divorce rate in the country, and not one marriage between a man and his daddylonglegs. I think we'd be safe.

I wonder if anyone *really* is just plain stupid enough to not be able to distinguish between marrige between two consenting adults, regardless of gender, and the alleged marrying non-humans, inanimate objects, or other obviously illegitimate couplings.

I think my faith in humanity demands I do not accept that more than a very thin margin of profoundly psychotic, sociopathic people are actually that stupid.

Not really. Studies have proved, over and over, that homos are born that way and the roughly the same percentage of animals are gay too. It's not about dominance, like some want to claim, but mutual pleasure seeking from the same sex to the exclusion of the opposite sex. It's been seen in deer, birds, reptiles, dogs, and other primates. Everything else you mentioned is just perverted. Animals don't molest their young. They might eat them, but that's nothing perverted. It's only natural for 10% of the population to be gay and for the rest of us to eat our children.
