I have been training in Muay Thai and have been told by my trainer that I am now ready to do atleast 1 fighters class a week on top of my mixed training.. I have done a fighters class before but feel bad when training with the really experienced fighters as I feel like they are just having to stop during training/sparring etc.. and keep showing me things and teaching me stuff etc,.. I feel as though they are missing out on the full benefits of the class for themselves when they have to partner with me compared to someone of their own experience, I know I would get slighlty annoyed if I always had to train with a newb and had to train at their level when I could be doing more... how do the really experienced people feel about this? Thanks :)

I would make sure that I expressed my appreciation and at the same time my concern to them about this. You may find that some resent it or may if they are training for a big fight that may be coming up but otherwise don't mind. Not only that but as you gain in experience you become a training partner for them and sometimes good ones are hard to find. Pay attention, work hard, and be conscious of the fact that you may have to step out occasionally to let them go faster or harder or more often and be a good and supportive training partner for them and I think you will find that it will all work out.

Don't feel bad. That's the way it works. Honestly until I started teaching I can tell you I didn't understand my system at all. Selfishly speaking, teaching will help people know their stuff even better. As you get more experienced you'll start to see that training with people that you feel like you are teaching more than training with becomes a way for you to understand your system even more. This is also the way it works; just don't forget when you are experienced and have knowledge to share - to not forget all the people who taught you & help someone else. Every single time you spar every person brings different energy so fighting someone knew helps them even if you are not up to their skill level yet. Really its in their best interest to help you get better so that there are more different energies to fight with.

Only suggestion - get this whole thing out of your head. When you go - do the best you can & bring all you got. Having lots of these thoughts will only psyche you out and not allow you to perform up to your current capabilities.

Teaching benefits the teacher almost as much as the student, at least that's the case with a decent teacher so long as the student is putting in effort.

Having to think about how to explain things to someone clarifies it in your own mind.

I wouldnt worry about it to much. They were in ur shoes at one time, and I bet they wanted some more experinced people to help them out as well. That is how you get better is by training with a person better than you.

In any martial arts discipline the students will advance to the point where they are required to teach as part of their learning experience. Them teaching you IS part of their learning, it benefits both of you. Make the most of this opportunity and benefit fro mthe experience!

ahh dont feel bad. i come to lower belt classes becuase i like to help out. my instructor puts me with the people who need particular help. its fun to help out! i love to pass on knowlege (ultimitly im going for my kyo sa min, and opening a dojang)

believe me, its no trouble at all. in addition those people come to many classes, there not missing much by giving some pointers. + if they did not want to help than they would just beat the living daylights outta you ^_~ jk they would not help if they did not want to

(i hope i helped)

i am the opposite. i am bigger than everyone ells so when we do ground work i always win because of my size and strength. i have alot of things to tell the smaller guys like things i watch for when sparring with bigger people. so don't sweat it.
