Outside Of Throat Hurts

I've had some pretty severe sore throats like that. Try tea with honey. Honey has antibacterial properties--it can kill whatever bacteria may have caused your sore throat, as well as prevent new bacteria from forming. It's also sweet and creates a nice soft layer to make other things go down smoother.

My sore throats are caused mostly by two things--allergies and dehydration. So, drink lots of water, and mint helps with congestion and allergy symptoms in general (including the drainage problems that can lead to sore throat). So try mint tea for that honey, or just chew a stick of mint gum. Vitamin C helps (the halls drops are wonderful), and there are chloroseptic strips you can get specifically for sore throats that work wonders, even if they don't taste that great.

If you have a fever or it's not better by sometime tomorrow, call a doctor.

If it's a bad one, inflammation can cause your neck to be tender on the outside. It can also cause swollen glands. If it is inhibiting swallowing, then it warrants a trip to the doctor. I'll bet when they look in your throat, it's "fire engine red"! Also, I have found that for that kind of throat pain, slippery elm tea is SO soothing, but any warm tea will do. Take some ibuprofen, it will help with the pain and it's also an anti-inflammatory. Drink, rest, and get some medical help asap. Hope you feel better soon. Oh, and like Newell said, warm salt water gargling also helps a lot. Absolutely.

If by hurts on the outside you mean your glands are swollen on either side of your throat, then they are doing what they were meant to do--fighting off infection. More often than not, gargling with salt water and water or vinegar and water will soothe the throat and kill off bacteria that is causing the sore throat. Gargle every night before you go to bed (8 oz of luke warm water with 1-2 tbs of salt or 2 tbs of vinegar).

As for the swollen glands, you can buy a vet ointment called Maslac that is used for swollen cow utters when they nurse their young (this is not a joke) and it brings down the swelling of the glands. It smells like vix and is clearish in color. Laugh, but it works. I used to use it all the time as a little girl. My mom would put it on and it would bring the swelling right down.

If the infection persists, you may want to see a doctor who can give you antibiotics to cut off the infection. (But I am not a doctor, just talking from experience since I've had enough swollen glands in my lifetime to know.)

Well, it could be mono, if you think about the symptoms. But, it could just be a common sore throat. Have you been in hot weather drinking large amounts of cold fluids recently? It's happened to me, and I got a really bad sore throat. If so, you might just wanna take some relatively warm water in a glass, put a lil salt in it (not too much, or you'll choke), and gurgle it over a sink. Try it three times and then take a nice nap afterwards. Calm breathing might rest your throat. When you wake up, I can't assure you it'll be better. but it's just a suggestion.

its just a sore throat, i suggest drinking lots of liquids, because your body is gonna need the extra water.

Basically, a sore throat is an infection in you throat, duh, by viruses, duh again, that end up destroying your throat cells. your body sends more blood to that area to release antibodies as well as white blood cells to the area. Other cell, called T-cells, release a toxin that kills the viruses and everything around them. This in turn causes your throat to feel sore and inflamed. However, because virus cells had days in advance to multiply in the millions (you get sick at least a week before you actually feel any symptoms, btw) you feel the sore throat effect for a while. Drinking water allows your body to help regenerate its strength because water is used frequently in glycolysis and other energy producing cycles in your cells. It may hurt when you drink, but you'll get better sooner! no need to see a doctor for this. most of the time they will give you an antibiotic...but seeing as how this is a virus, it will have no effect. (doctors usually do this in order to 1. make you think you will feel better psychologically and 2. because most ppl are unaware that antibiotics wont do them any help.)

rest and drink lots of fluids.

the first step is to drink LOTS of water. even though it hurts when u swallow, u still have to drink water. you might have tonsilitis. drink lots of fluids and dont eat any fried, fatty, or oily food. also rinse and gargle your mouth with salt water or use Listerine. if there is still pain, go to the doctor RIGHT AWAY. i don't think it's normal for a sore throat to have pain on the outside, or it just might be EXTREMELY SEVERE case of sore throat. the best way to get rid of the sore throat fast is to contact your doctor. it might just be something more severe than just sore throat.

You are probably just pushing on inflamed tissue and it hurts. Go to the doctor for some antibiotics. Inflamed glands can really hurt, and you might have strep throat.

It sounds like you've got an infection. It's sore on the inside because that's where the bacteria is growing. It's sore on the outside because you've got swollen, painful lymphnodes. You need an antibiotic.
