I live near the military bases in NC and the area here is used during training flights. For the past month or so they have been flying over heavy. Seems like everytime they start a lot of training and fly overs a new war breaks out with the US. Do you think Bush is getting ready to attack Iran?

How can you tell the difference? Let's see, North Carolina. That would put you near MCAS Cherry Point or maybe around the Pamlico ranges. If those are navy jets, it could just mean that a carrier is putting out to sea and all the pilots need to get requalified on carrier landings. Otherwise, it could mean that a Squadron just came BACK from the war and needs to catch up on it's training. Another possible reason is that it's July, the fiscal year is over at the end of September and the units need to burn their annual fuel allocation if they want to get the same amount next year. Since none of the flying they do in Iraq counts against that, they are flying their tails off. Another possibility is that the base is hosting an LFE (Large Force Employment), which is a major multi-day exercise sometimes involving 50 to 100 aircraft. They happen several times a year, mostly off one of our coasts. I personally participated in a dozen or so off the Carrolina coast. Or maybe there's an airshow on. None of these things points to a new war. My advice? Enjoy the show!

An increase in training and or flights does not automatically indicate a war is going to break out. It could be something as simple as funding being released for training. Some squadrons may have had to scale back hours the past month and now they are making it up.

I dont know about Canada, but here in the US, I live by 2 AF stations. Whidbey Island Naval Air Station and Bremerton, WA which is home to the Aircraft Carriers. Thus I hear a ton of jets roar over my home about 10,000 feet high, and I am used to it. Most are drills or detachments. I am in a city, Seattle so I am in a very densely populated area, and i dont know about you but It could be an excercize.

I highly doubt it. Pilot have to train constantly just to maintain current on their qualifications. Chances are your house just lies in a corridor, (a specific route they have to take to get to and from the airfield.) I doubt the is any correlation between a new war and them flying over your house.

I understand certain jet fighters are being phased out. Therefore the pilots who flew these planes will have to train on the newer fighters.
Also, airlines are hiring again, so airline pilots who flew in the reserves may be retiring from the reserves or guard to resume their civilian careers, creating openings for new pilots.

It might be in preparation for an attack or it might just be an exercise. Either way enjoy it. The noise you hear is the sound of freedom!

It also could be that a squadron that has been deployed for a while has returned home and is now making up for the training they couldn't do at the deployed location.

It's a possibility. And, if we do attack Iran, I sure hope we only do airstrikes, and none of this invade and rebuild crap.
