I think everyone gets a little aggressive when someone else challenges their beliefs- whether they are a christian or not.
Some questions deliberately try to "MAKE" people defend what they believe in- when everyone should really just leave each other alone and stop throwing insults. We are all entitled to our own opinions and beliefs.

I'm sorry that you've experienced such people. Agree or disagree really isn't the argument though. It is really truth vs. non-truth. If you're interested in learning the truth, you should read the Bible. What you need is in there. Focus on the gospels if you want a good place to start.

If what you really want is to prove a Christian is wrong, or that the Bible is b.s., then I don't know how you expect a person to react when they are confronted like that. Most people, Christian or not, would probably argue and may be considered "aggressive" by someone's interpretation of the word. So be it. Move on and keep seeking. When you're done seeking, open the Bible and try again.

If you're going to get "aggressive", at least learn to use the spell check first. You come out sounding really ignorant when you misspell simple words...especially when you have a spell check right there (upper right hand corner) to help even the most uneducated to spell like a college grad.
Also, learn to chose your battles. Taking on everyone who is a Christian is an awful big bite. Try smaller groups, at least till you get the hang of it.
Personally, I think it would be better to try to understand people who think differently than you do, and maybe...just maybe...you might learn something.
Miracles do still happen....

EDIT:
Just for the record, the lady's name is *Libbie*, not *Libby*...gosh, if you're gonna insult someone, at least use their right name.
You really aren't very good at this, are you?

I suppose everybody becomes defensive when their beliefs are questioned. However, you have generalised a whole religion based on your own personal experience. I do not find Christians to be any more aggressive then Jews (try questioning them without being branded Anti-Semetic) Muslims, Buddhist, or any other religion. Take a look at what happened to Salman Rushdie after he published the Satanic Verses. I have sen numeous books defaming other religions, yet the leaders of those religions turn the other cheek.

There is something in human psychology, which is still a mystery, that gives arrogant self-assurance to those that choose to believe that what they have been told is the word of God. This word of God therefore gives them existence on a higher spiritual plane, that makes them "better" or more favored by God, above the other fallible mortals who don't know the "truth". A part of our evolving homo-sapien mind has the power to ask important questions but not the ability to answer those questions so it is easy to say that the answer is found in the book my neighbor gave me that says it contains the word of God. Susan B Anthony said something to the effect that she found that it was remarkable that those that she knew that said they knew the work of God also happened to find that the things that they believed had a miraculous way of agreeing with what they believed in the first place. We need something grander and better with better answers than what we've got. The best thing is to believe what you know in your heart is the right, or wrong, thing. Think for yourself.

Same reason you would be quick to throw a cheap shot at someone you didn't know, who told you the outfit you saved up for looked just like their granny's tablecloth.

They took offense. You happened to LIKE that outfit (and MANY people DO!) But they made you question that outfit for a split second, and how dare they!

The only reason people get aggressive is when they feel they are being challenged in some way.

Bring it on baby!

And I know a few Christians who DO get upset when religion is brought up. But I also know a lot of non-Christians who also get that way when something they believe in is challenged.

It depends on the Christian, the subject, and the situation. It is like some of the atheists on here some of them are respectful and want to ask and answer questions, others just want to make trite statements and belief that being a Christian means that one has given up the ability to think( I would call that bigotry) It is all in who you talk to and how.

the aggressive questions on this site aren't really by Christians but it seems they are by Atheists lately. Sometimes the fundies get a little too much caffeine and go for it but, generally it's the Atheists for aggression.

I assume you refer to the pushy ones.

They think they do their God a favor by converting people, although their God said they are saved by grace through faith and that not of themselves, it's a gift from God. It also says that no one comes to Christ except that the Holy Spirit draws them.

Yet these childish people continue to try to earn their salvation, driving off most rational and emotionally stable people that might be interested in their philosophies.

They are so arrogant that they can't believe that anyone might understand the entire thing and decide that there's a better way to come to the divine.

The foolishness of all fundamentalist of every religion is extreme.

Here's a shout out to all my Pagan friends!

Blessed Be.
