If the XP you get is an UPGRADE version, then your files should go relatively untouched.

BUT, as a "Best Practice" you should always backup your files on a regular basis, anyway. So, go ahead and burn all your stuff that you want to keep to CD so that you'll have that "insurance" in case something does happen to go wrong.

You WILL like XP MUCH better than ME!

Good Luck :D

Edit: Someone suggested to wait for Vista. BAD idea! DO go XP. In the long run you'll be glad you did.

You need to back your songs up to some external media like CDs or another hard drive (external).

I presume you are going to clean install Windows XP and therefore format you current hard drive that contains the songs? If so you have to copy them somewhere else.

Having Windows ME, I will assume that you have an older PC.
Best to do a clean install in which case you should backup all files to an external source.
But, do you have large enough hard drive to support xp and its updates? And then re-load all your data?
Someone suggested Windows Vista but it needs even larger area to run.

If you upgrade it should all still be there, but you should still backup anything you want to keep to an external source (cds, dvds, external harddrive, etc).
