I just moved in to a new apartment and I have got my bed frame and still looking for the mattress now. I am considering a memory foam as the mattress, but is it actually a mattress? Can it actually work if I just put the memory foam on top of the mattress?

There are mattresses sold WITH it, but memory foam is usually just a product to place over the mattress. If you are buying a new mattress and plan to add that- check that your mattress depth will not exceed normal fitted sheet size with another 1-2".

Memory Foam is usually a contoured pillow. I use one and it give good support for your neck. There are mattresses that are made of foam. But they deteriorate much more quickly than a regular mattress. Some people really like them. When buying a new mattress stay in the store for quite awhile and take your own pillow and lay on the mattress for at least 15-20 minutes turning at all your sleeping positions and make sure its the one you want. Most (but not all) stores do not take returns on mattresses. Sears does, so if you don't like it, they will refund your money or exchange it.

You can purchase memory foam mattresses, pillows or just mattress covers...so you have all options available to you.

btw I bought a memory foam pillow and had to return it 'cause it smelled...it was too much for me....but i have a very sensitive nose....just be prepared to have to air it out if you don't like the strong chemical smell.... maybe not all memory foams smell but mine from WalMart did.

Enjoy.

Truthfully its awful. I had the pillow and mattress pad of one and eventually u don't want to sink in it. A nice normal mattress is the best. Its great to lay on and relax on one a bit (like the store) but after that... it sucks. Especially for extracuricular activities if you know what I mean.
