Well, if you're only going to be gone for two weeks or less, leaving it in it's cage with plenty of water and food should be enough. Make sure it has a lot of water though.

A friend of ours did that, and I went to the house every day to check but never had to give them anymore food or water because they always had enough.

I'm having the same problem. I have 3 parakeets, 1 of which I got at the SPCA. They had him in a covered cage in the cat room. Couldn't leave him there. I also had 2 cockatiels but another was found near the pool where I live and I got it to keep since we couldn't find the owner. We thought it was a he but "he" has now laid 3 eggs. They should hatch about the time we are scheduled to leave. I spoke with someone at a pet store and got a number for a woman who rescues birds. I intend to call her about the mom and hatchlings and I have a lady who will come in to feed and water the other 5 birds for me. There also may a vet in your local area who either can board them or tell you of someone who can help.
We have a vet who specializes in birds here but I hear he is very, very expensive.

I have family come over to take care of the birds. If I left and no family around, I use the breeder as a birdie hotel. They take excellent care of my birds. They are around $10 a day though :( Luckily, for the Hawaii vacation, my daughter is going to come up and take care of all of the animals. I am going to give her the money I would have spent on boarding 3 dogs, 3 birds and 1 cat.

I used to pet sit for birds in my home for $3.00 a day. Call the local vets and see if any of their assistants or techs do pet sitting--many do on the side. My vet charges $8.00 a day.
Get a friend or neighbor to watch it?
Call a professional pet sitter (check the phone book)
Call boarding kennels--many take birds.
I'd rather leave my bird home than expose it to other birds and the stress of moving from home.
