i know some of you will say that without god the world would be a horrible place, but can you really argue the fact that most wars in the world (all through history)have been religious wars

It's obvious just from the R&S section here that religion causes people to be at war with one another.
I think that too many people have died in the name of "god".

By reading closely in History it will also show you that all religious wars by based solely in economic gains. They are all based on greed and loved for money. Religion just became a lame excuse for killing people a perfect cover for personal agenda.
In fact in games like Age of Empires religion has a very significant role in controlling power.
I agree with you the religion can cause wars. But the real problem is human nature itself. If you remove religion out of the planet, it will only be replaced by another form. To changed the world, we should start with ourself. Not on pushing others to changed.

Most religious wars were Muslim (before you mention the Crusades know that they were in response to the Muslim Jihad [Muslim holy war] which had taken land from CHRISTIAN Byzantium).

Christianity has helped to stop many wars, although many wars have been fought in His name, they were caused by man, not God. God would strictly be against Christians fighting their own Christian brothers.

And as for the bit about more wars being fought over religious reasons, I have only to say: That is not true, just because you know of more religious wars doesn’t mean there are more religious wars then other wars.

I think Most wars are caused by conflicts in God, but i still don't think that if people never believed in God than the world would be even more of a dangerous place

Im a Hindu, and I can't recall any conflicts with other religions that Hinduism has had, even with Muslims. They might not like us but we respect other Religions.

God or religion has created some major civil wars. Not all wars were because people believe or don't believe in God. Without religion, there could be chaos or who knows peace. Humankind need guidelines and standards that everyone should abide by and it should be globalized and not through multiple religions!

If you study history carefully I believe that you will find that most "religious" wars involved nations fighting for land and other rights. By far the desire for boundaries and more territory has been the cause of most wars.

No, I can't deny the fact that most wars in the world have been religious... but had there been no religion at all, we would have found something else to fight about. Anyone with kids can tell you this.

There was a great episode of South Park this season that posed this very question. However, as it turned out, with religions gone, the atheists got into wars over what kind of Atheists they were. It is not religion that causes war, it is intolerance.

But without war, that means peace. and then there is noone to go to when you have a problem and cant settle it on your own.

there is always some moron who thinks thier better than everyone else, so they will try to boss ppl around. then eventually rise to power. then, someone will be tired of thier bossiness and try to everthrow them. and then, war is born. So i say no.

The point is, ppl will ALWAYS find SOMETHING to fight about. it could start from anything.

Hello kevlar1.. :)

No..for if one "Truly believes in God", they will not go to war..

We are called to Love our enemies..how can one say I Love You and then shoot them.. :(

Before my brothers and sisters In Christ give me thumbs down..Can you show scripture anywhere in the New Testament it says we can go to war, or defend ourselves..

Jesus did not strike back at anyone, nor did any of the Apostles after the Holy Spirit came upon them..

In Jesus Most Precious Name..
With Love..In Christ.. :)

Though many wars are fought in the name of religion, it's often just a rallying cry, not the 'real' reason. It might be a little harder to whip up the kind of fervor needed to start a war or a campaign of terrorism without religious fantatics to exploit, but I doubt it'd be impossible.
