He has dry skin. You can add Cod Liver Oil to his food a few time a week.

My dog is a pointer-boxer mix and she had flakes on her coat 2 weeks ago. I gave her extra oil on her dry food and also one egg/day for a week, and one egg every other day for another week. I also gave her a bath. Her coat is shiny again and no more flakes.

This is what my vet told me to do when I first adopted her 3 years ago, and I did again for the second time last month.

Why?
I think my dog got that teh second time becuase i went on vacations and she was stressed out.
the first time she had that, it's because of the bad food + stress she had from being in the streets

Hope that helps!

His dead skin is coming out of his fur called dandruff. Give him a thorough bath and brush him real good. If his fur still flakes, go to a local pet store and buy some ointment for his dandruff, they also sell special shampoos for that reason. Flaking is very common with dogs and there is no reason to be concerned if you are giving him regular baths and grooming him. hope i helped!

well dogs get dandruff just like humans do. my lab had dandruff alot and sometimes its not dandruff, sometimes if it itches and they bite at it too much it will flake up or they will scratch at it and it will flake up my lab did that too. you can get a medicine for itching from a petstore or even from wal mart or any store with a pet section and some human medicines for itching work on dogs too and if you put a little olive oil in their food it can help that too. but if its dandruff you can just buy a dandruff shampoo and wash them with it twice a week untill the dandruff goes away but watch him alot to find out if its too much itching or if its just dandruff

It could be an allergy to flea bites, or eczema that usually starts on the back near the tail and can get an odor to it. In either case, contact a veterinarian for advice on treatment or look online. If you think it could be fleas, try one of those one treatment every three months medications. Good luck!

Most likely its dandruff, like humans get.

And what do humans do when they get dandruff???

.....well most people get dandruff shampoo.
I never had a problem with my dog having dandruff,
but im pretty sure they have shampoo for it.
I would go to your local store and get some special shampoo and give your dog a long bath.

Make sure you rinse good!

If it doesnt go away then I would go to the Vet and get it checked out!

GOOD LUCK!

certain breeds of dog exude a waxy substance upon irritation to their skin, and their scratching at it makes it worse. Any reputable pet shop will have shampoos there to help this, and if it persists, take the poor critter in for the vet to see.
