It seems stupid that an 'all-loving' god sets deadlines.

Okay are you sayin that you want to do whatever you want then just before you die, give your life to Christ? You know that God doesn't forgive people who don't really feel bad for their sins. That is called lying to God, which is unforgivable.
If God made no deadlines then it wouldn't be fair for the Christians who have given their lives to Christ way before hand. Do not fool God it is an unforgivable sin (Matthew 12:32).

If you'll take a look at that first answer, you will see the same thing reflected in just about all of the other answers. Life is a test, with a dividing line of death, after which Hebrews 9:27 comes into play, and that's it, game over.

I will give you a different spin on this -- the reason that you can't accept Jesus after you die, is not because of what you didn't do -- it is because of your sins that God righteously left you in. Guess what, Christians are in the same boat, God could righteously have left them in their sins too. They have absolutely nothing to claim except the joy that they have through God's initiative and God's intervention, not theirs. Why do they go to heaven? Because God loves them, of course. And Jesus took their sins to the cross with him, and died for them.

Free will in the theological sense of being able to look to God for salvation, doesn't exist. It's God's prerogative as to who goes to heaven, not ours. In other words, if you go to heaven, it is because God saw you from eternity, and you are saved until eternity. If you do not go to heaven, is because God never knew you -- and this goes way back before you were born.

And your deadlines are erased...

I firmly believe God gives each person ample opportunity to accept or reject Jesus as Lord and Savior, once that person reaches the age of accountability! Before the age of accountability, the spirit of a child or of a severely mentally deficient person, unable to be accountable, enters the Presence of God, without question! God knows who will accept or reject His salvation offer; but He doesn't force acceptance on anyone! He also know how many times or how much it will take for someone to make a conscious decision to accept or reject His free gift of salvation. It took me 25 years on earth before I turned my life over to God.

The key to any kind of relationship with God is faith. What faith will you need after the fact? What have you got to lose by accepting Jesus right now? What are you so reluctant to give up?

Making a decision when you can't make the wrong decision doesn't mean much. Likewise, making a decision when the consequences are in your face, figuratively speaking, wouldn't be very meaningful. To my knowledge, Christians believe life is the testing ground.

Why can't you accept Master Card after you die?

Or Vatican Express, don't leave Rome without it.

It just seems to me that putting things off till you're dead is an example of extreme procrastination.

Either way makes no difference to me.

Blessed Be
