The distance is 6 feet at the most in this small room. I have heard that whether you go 720 or 1080 can be impacted by the viewing distance. How big can I go? Does the DPI matter?

All you need for that distance is anything from 30 inch to 37 inch....at most.

720P is sufficient for that distance and size of screen....

I agree with the first guy... no bigger than 37" and I'd go even smaller if you're really going to be only 5 or 6 feet away from the screen. You don't want to feel like you're in the front row at a movie theater.

About 3 times the width of the screen will give you a minimum comfortable viewing distance.
