I am wanting to purchase an Ovation acoustic-electric guitar, can anyone tell me if this brand is good? I mean, I know it's not of a Gibson quality, but I'm just beginning to play.

Yes, Ovation is very good, the 12 string has had problems with the main arm breaking, but otherwise is great sound quality. the Gibson has a different sound, so personal tastes might apply.

Ovations are nice. The rounded, plastic back bugs some people but I've never had an issue with it. If you get the model with the smaller holes it won't sound as full acoustically. I've owned 2 Ovation Celebrities for several years and they work well, like you said, my $2000 Martin is a way better guitar but not everyone has $2000 to spend on a guitar!

In my opinion, the Gibson accoustic is a piece of junk. Great electrics, crummy accoustics. The Ovation is nice but a little tinny on sound, because of the plastic body. There are many other accoustics out there with better quality.
I personaly have the Takamanie which is awesome. Also My dad has the Seagull which is only acoustic made in Canada.

I have been in lust with the Ovation since I first heard one back in the 70's. What a tone! And if you get the pre-amp set just right it can sound like a steel-back guitar. Unfortunately for me the neck on those things is a wee bit too narrow (I'm used to a classical). And don't pay attention to brand names anyway. My classical guitar is a Raven (one of lowest end guitars) and she's sweet. I've had professional musicians play her and offer me as much as $1,000 for her. She was a $75 guitar back in 1968. I did a little work on her, have kept her in good shape and now her tone is magnificent. And having spoken with many guitarists, from concert to rock and what have you, they all agree that the brand name in itself doesn't mean everything.
Way to go on an Ovation, lucky devil.

Ovation makes a very fine instrument. Although I do not own one myself, a good friend of mine has one and it's very easy to play. A good choice for a beginner, this guitar plays very much like an electric guitar, very low action and deep resonate tone. If you are serious about playing guitar and plan playing for years to come it's definately a good choice.

Its good. The advantage of buying an acoustic electric is that even though it won't sound top notch quality acoustic, it has the amplification factor. It still sounds great. I would recommend it. But dont just take my word for it, go to a local music store and listen to it for yourself. Don't just buy by the brand name, if you like it, thats whats important.

I've only heard one once and I thought that it had a great sound, but of course just like anything else there's the expensive one and the inexpensive one, try it out and see how you think it feels in your hands, if the action is good for you, and that the sound is what your looking for then go for it.

yes it's better than a gibson cause you can go all the way up the neck and stuff it has a cut away for that. my boyfreind had a lookalike of one they are nice
