I know exactly what you mean!! About a year ago (was it that long?) I decided to make my room, not the depressing place it had been, but a place of sanctuary that I needed it to be. I started with the idea that I wanted to decorate it to make me feel safe, happy, and comfortable in there.
With that in mind, I found a bed spread, some throw pillows, some plants (although with no windows, I would try some nice fakes!!), some candles... I also tried to rearrange my room in a way that felt welcoming and pleasant (not shoving my bed in the corner, placing my dresser at an angle, not overcrowding my room).
My suggestions would be to find what makes you feel at peace or energetic and happy. If you paint it, paint a fun mural on the wall, doesn't take a lot of skill. If you can't, find a fun wall hanging or 10! Find some pictures! For me, plants make me happy, and so I would find some nice fake plants, flowers, something fun! I think being focused in making your room fun, is a first step! I also would make sure I had the whole room lit up! Make sure you have different lights that you can use, maybe some candles for when you want low lighting, and make sure they are candles you REALLY like, not just the cheapest ones. I had to get off my keister and make an effort and focus on making my room mine! I also found that organizing stuff so it would stay organized helped! I didn't have a lot of money, so I kept most of it low budget. The decoration helped though and now I enjoy my room (more when it is neat and cleaned up though).

If possible, paint the room a cheery, light color such as yellow.
Hang inexepensive prints on the walls that will cheer you up.
Mountain scenes, wildflower scenes might be nice.
Buy yourself, or pick, a bouquet of flowers for your table. Play soft music.
Find some nice inspiring quotations from your readings, type them up in large print and post the quotations.
By the way, I have a "secret" on how to combat your depression.
Devote your time helping others. It's much more difficult obsessing about yourself when you realize there's so many people in the world who are much worse off than you are and who can use your help. Volunteer your time to a charity. If so inclined, work through a church (or whatever) organization.
When you make others feel better about themselves, you will feel better about yourself.
Soon friendship and love may come into that little room of yours and fill it with the joy you deserve. Don't be surprised if your little 12 X 12 room expands to fill the universe.
Good luck.

I would paint your walls a blue, lavender, pink or green:
Sherwin Williams:
6960 Bewitching Blue, 6961 Blue Beyond
6956 Blue Refrain, 6957 Undercool, 6948 Blue Bauble
6936 Aquatint
6972 Joyful Lilac, 6973 Free Spirit
6844 Merry Pink
6928 Green Vibes, 6929 Witty Green, 6933 Clean Green
Any of these should be calming and light enough for your small space.
Get some meditation Cd's and some sort of water fountain so you can relax and read. Get some essential oils and a diffuser or even some incense.
Add lights on dimmers and place them around the room in a triangular pattern. Paint your furniture white.
Hang a small cork board and post some inspirational sayings to read every day. And keep a journal nearby.
Take one day at a time and "go for a walk", even if it is for 15 minutes and try for twice a day and talk to everyone you meet!
Join something to get you involved with people.
Good luck and God Bless.

12 x 12 is not a small room. Its not huge but it certainly isn't considered small. There is a lot you can do with this but one of the best ideas is mirrors. The more mirrors and lamps you have the brighter the place will be. You could get yourself an old window frame and put mirrors into the squares, hang it like a picture and put curtains on either end. It would make it look like you had a window in your room. Use as much white and pastel shades as you can. Nothing dark. Good luck.

Mirrors and lights - lots of them.
The lights can be the "earth friendly - same as a 60 watt bulb but only uses 4 wattes of energy,
and just use more lamps.
You can also have cozy laps that emit color through the light blue colored shade.
Again, you can add a light colored fabric to a shade to give it dimension.
If you can get a poster of a large seascape at the craft store, and put that on the wall, it will definitely help.
I know of a person who put a poster of a window looking out to the ocean, and it was great and didn't cost much.
Also use light colors if you want to paint the walls.
Plants can help give you oxygen and it's nice to have something live around - even if you get cuttings from your friend's or relative's plants with vines.
Now - practice smiling everytime you pass a mirror.
Play music to lift your spirits.
GOD bless us always.

Create a window with a mirror and drape around it. Do a garden look with colors of the outdoors and white cottage furniture....paint if you have to. Or if you want a spa look for relaxation, do cool greens and hang specialty curtain rods from ceiling to create your own canopy over the bed Use lots of pillows....big ones for your floor....lots on your bed. But in the end, no room is going to change your problem with depression. You need some professional help with that so get with your parents and get some help.

1] paint room sky blue, with clouds on ceiling or walls
2] get a window frame, paint it white, and staple a cheap outdoor scene to back of it [ or make your own ]
3] Or, paint the room a warm, happy color -
dusty rose
peach or coral
custard yellow
4] get some rainbow bedding - cheerful, but not juvenile
5] add a rug, and some throw pillows, candles, desk or dresser sets in a one or two colors from your spread
6] get at least one plant, even fake, or a few potted flowers
[ maybe put them on a shelf under your 'window' ]
Good luck, and God bless!

Use full spectrum lighting, especially near plants. The plants will help to keep your air clean. A negative ion generator is very helpful as well. Paint the walls purple, it promotes restful sleep. Have yellow and gold accents, it will cheer you. Add some lovely shades of blue and green, those colors will heal and relax you. Burn sage in the room to clean it, then use essential oil of lavender for its calming properties. Use luxurious fabrics and have lots of pillows of different levels of firmness on the bed. Have a place for everything and keep it there. Do all this and you will have a soothing, uplifting retreat.

Go to the hardware store and get the 12x12 stick on mirrors Take strips of wood and make fake windows then you could hang a flower box under it and put fake greenery and silk flowers of your choice in it. You could even hang tie back curtains and valance on the window. Paint the room a bright happy color of your choice and you could purchase a piece of picket fence at the hardware to make a head board. Set clay pots around and fill them with rocks and your favorite silk florals. You could set a bird house in there and glue cute fake birds on it. Or if you could find a bird house lamp that would be cool. Have good lighting in there ......bring the outdoors in like a water fountain ( small of course) with this decorative setting it would be like your own little quiet and private garden. Also set watering cans around with greenery flowing out. Have fun.

Every room needs a window. So, I would paint one on the wall. Outlooking to a world that comunicates tranquillity. If you don´t feel up to it then buy a poster that could be like a window senery. Important is that it comunicates harmony to you. Also you could take a lot of your pics of animals, pets, friends and family, cut them the paste it on a big cardboard then hang it up. These are two of my ideas. But here is link for loads of other ideas...Art Attack! Have fun and cheer up :)
