Teddy bear hamsters are wonderful
Mine lived for a year and a half, so they are perfect for teenagers because you don't have a long term pet for college and such
They are very kind and as long as you give the cage a wash every week, it doesnt smell much
the only thing i will warn you at is that they run at night and sometimes that makes noises
they dont need too much attention, maybe 20-30 minutes a day
training is pretty easy, just flick them in the butt lightly if they ever bite (rarely if ever) and they wont do it again
they are cuddly and very fun to watch
they can be very cute and are usually pretty cheap at Petco.
the price is only something to worry about for food because its a monthly item to buy
Otherwise, hamsters are a PERFECT pet

My roommate had a teddy bear hamster and she was a complete sweetheart. She was really tame, and didn't mind if we had to go a few days without getting her out and playing with her. She never even tried to bite, and could run around the room without trying to escape. I think she knew that, when she stayed nearby, she got fed. Just make sure you have the time to commit, because they really shouldn't have to go days without any interaction. That was our only regret. They are great pets, but can be a 1-2 year commitment, so make sure you're ready!

I recommend getting a Panda Bear Hamster. They are sweet and tame. They are also the easiest to take care of. That or a long haired Hamsters.

I have 3 syrians, all sweet, petsmart is where i shop for them and their needs, get them a nice crittertrail cage, aquariums are for fish. and an exercise ball for out side the cage fun, and super shavin's for bedding, my petsmart only sells females, i have 3, but they need their own cage, they are solitary animals, let them have a few days nto get used to thbeir new home before you try and handle them. clean cage out completely weekly, water every day, food 2 tablespoons a day, empty out the leftovers, fresh fruits as a treat, mine like apple pieces, strawberries, celery, carrots, cheerios, dog biscuit pieces, yogurt drops, small piece of raw groundbeef, and you will see what yours likes thru tryin g out new stuff. no onions. and they are nocturnal, which means at night you may wish to move the cage to where someone is not trying to sleep. and have fun they are great little buddies, and put a latch on the front door, they love to escape.

My daughter has a teddy bear and its been wonderful. We have had no problem with it and no bitting at all. As long as you get them used to holding them as soon as you get them then they are fine. Change bedding every few days make sure they have plenty of water and toys to play with as well as a wheel. They love their wheel. They usually live about 2 years or so. My daughters is aged now but still with us but it mostly sleeps day and night now...Good luck...

Hamsters are cool, but they need ALOT of attention. If you don't keep them tame, they'll get wild and bite the crap out of you! You have to handle them alot.
They are also alot of fun to watch run around!
Keep cage cleaned out at least once a week!
